Outfitted with a magnification and objective lens size favored by birders, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts for long-range observations, the Carson Optical 10x42 JR Close-Up Binoculars, in Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camouflage, will quickly become an essential piece of your kit.

Their 10x power brings subjects in close while the objectives boost light-gathering ability for use from the predawn hours, through the day, and deep into dusk. Complementing these features are compact BAK4 roof prisms and anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics, which maximize light transmission and produce high-contrast images with accurate color rendition and improved clarity. Helping to offset the distracting visible hand shake that is often associated with holding high-power optics such as these, Carson engineered the JR Close-Up binoculars with an apparent angle of view that approaches wide angle.

To withstand the rigors of the trail, Carson nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed the optical tubes to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging in extreme temperature and weather conditions. The chassis is wrapped in a protective rubber armor that is textured to provide a slip-resistant grip in cold and wet weather. For long-duration glassing sessions at the range, in a blind, or on a patio, the JR Close-Up binoculars can be tripod mounted with an optional adapter to provide easy hands-free use with greatly reduced vibrations and no arm fatigue. Ideal for hiking and boating, Carson includes tethered objective lens covers and an ocular rainguard to protect exposed lens surfaces and to keep them close at hand without the risk of losing them.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a d300 and d300s. I am trying to decide which macro lighting system to purchase for outstanding results with intermediate experience. Would you recommend the R1C1, 4804 R1, R1, something else?

A: You did not mention if you have any other Nikon flash units on hand. Both D300 and 300s has flash menu control that allow you to adjust flash output by using the build in flash as command in place of the R1C1's command unit. You can save yourself some money if you choose to use the camer's build in menu, or use it to buy extra small flash units that can attach to the ring (these units aren't exactly inexpensive, but more light means better illumination).

Q: 2. Does this come with the Canon USA warranty?

A: The Canon 10x42 L IS WP Image Stabilized Binocular comes with the Canon Limited 3-Year Warranty.

Q: 3. Does it works without battery , i.e as usual binocular?

A: Regarding the Canon 10x42 L IS WP Image Stabilized Binoculars, the visual optics will work without batteries. The IS requires batteries.

Q: 4. What outer size are the objective lenses? Are there any tethered caps that fit these binoculars?

A: The included caps can be hung from the included neck strap. So it already comes with a tethered cap system.

Q: 5. I lost my manual. Where can i download one?

A: You probably can get one from B&H - if not Google Canon and you should be able to get one there.

Q: 6. Is there any such thing as lens caps for these bad boys or would the best bet be lens hoods?

A: Yes, the Canon 10x42 L IS WP Image Stabilized Binoculars can take standard 52mm lens caps.

Q: 7. There are many reviews that complain of decomposing rubber housings. Did Canon fix this issue?

A: I haven't heard of an issue like this in a very long time. I believe the Model has been updated since that issue has occurred. They offer a great Limited 3-Year Warranty that does cover against this kind of Defect.

Q: 8. Will this work with a Nikon D3s?

A: The Nikon R1C1 will work with the Nikon D3s, (except high speed sync function).

Q: 9. Good morning I have a Nikon D300 and am looking at purchasing this unit. I do not see where it says it is compatible with a D300. Am I over buying if this is or is an R1 going to do the same?

A: The controller in the hot shoe is in charge of triggering and setting light output to the r1s. It is an expense but works wonderfully for macro.

Q: 10. I have the canon 10 x 42 stabilizer binoculars. What kind of battery fits into the slot that stabilizes the binoculars.

A: two AA batteries

As a Dyrt Ranger I get the opportunity to review outdoor gear. On this trip I took along my recently received Midland X-TALKER T75VP3 hand held radio’s. As soon as I took the radio’s out of their display box I could tell these weren’t anything like my childhood Walkie talkies. Camouflaged, compact and very sturdy feeling. They fit nicely in your hand.
These radio’s come with rechargeable batteries. You can also use regular batteries if need be. The base that comes with the radio has the options of using alternate charging platforms in addition to plugging it into the wall.
There are A LOT of instructions;) few important points are you have to be registered to use certain frequencies and there is a weather channel options BUT I will have to figure that one out when I have more time as right now it’s Greek to me....
Then we took our radio’s out to play. There was the obligatory “can you hear me now” as we stood five feet apart.
Next on the East Overlook we split up and I was extremely surprised at the sound quality . Once again I was expecting the childhood Walkie talkie experience. However these radio’s sound awesome.
On another trail, with trees , small hills and distance in between the sound and reception was just as good. I would suggest using something in addition to the belt clip included. It is sturdy but not extremely secure and I worried about loosing the radio when I hooked it to my belt.
Overall I am loving this little radio, I will review it again when I have had a chance to use it in more adverse and different situations.

It was impossible for me to find the True Timber Kanati Camo version in Europe, so it was very pleasant to me to find it at B&H.
Very strong product, good looking, perfect matching with my wildlife photography activity.
Thanks a lot;

I had to learn a whole new vocabulary to understand the implications of the different specifications; once I received it, I needed to read the manual to figure out the various menu options and how to make the changes. I have a copy of the manual downloaded to my phone for easy reference!

I liked that the radios have rechargeable batteries and a charging base, both via USB. with the option to use 3 AAA batteries in a pinch. They charged quickly and I found the battery life was quite long on stand-by.
They have long-range capability with high and low power settings, though you need ideal conditions to maximize this. I got at least a mile of coverage with trees and other obstructions.
I loved that I can get weather alerts as well as weather forecasts; this can be more reliable than using my cell phone when I'm out in the woods or ponds.
Real life:
It worked well over a mile with a combination of lake and trees. On a recent camping trip, I arrived before others and went off to explore, so I left a radio at camp and asked them to radio me when they arrived. We used the radio to keep in touch while hiking and kayaking. Messages are transmitted clearly and easily. I didn't fully test the full-range, but am very pleased with this.

Great pair of Binoculars the 10X42 help enlarge the birds over the 8X42. Well designed except for the lens covers. Good for low light, and have good color. I would recommend these Binoculars.

You get a lot of bang for your buck with these low cost Nikons.Would I take these on a Grizzly Bear hunt in Alaska? No,I'd take my Zeiss, but these would work if they were all I had.Are they as good as a pair of Leicas? No but they are a very, very nice pair for a little over 200 dollars.Id say the same thing about them if they cost 300-350.I bought a pair of Pro Staff Nikons over 20 years ago, used them year round in multiple states on many hunts.About 2 years ago gave them to my oldest son and they were still in decent shape. That pair was made in Japan, these are now made in China but I can tell no difference in quality.Worth the money in every regards IMO.

I've used this pair of radios for two hunting seasons on our 160 acre leased hunting property. They have performed flawlessly thus far. The compact height, the "FULL" charge indicator, and the short battery charge time are definite positives.
