A: when hang a canvas we do not sue the cross bars. We only use the stands. I am not sure if the crossbars, when extended to the full length will hold a canvas background. Our canvases are mounted with a wood crossbar with two holes drilled for the tops of the stands to go into. This works great. We use the crossbars for Muslin and other lighter materials.

A: Yes I would definitely say yes. The stands are pretty strong and tip would be long enough to go through both the bar that the backdrop hangs on as well as the accessory bracket.
