A video device sometimes has problems recognizing the EDID from a display on which it is connected. The FSR EDID Emulator helps match up such devices. It connects between the two devices and lets you make the match using a rotary dial. The rotary dial is on the bottom of the emulator and can be set to any of 16 positions.
The first position allows you to learn the EDID of the display. In some cases, a video device won't recognize the EDID of a display because of only some tiny incompatibilities. The first rotary position can help by allowing the video source to learn the EDID of the display so that the info is recognized.
The other 15 positions offer preinstalled EDID settings that you can toggle through when attempting to allow two devices to be recognized by each other. For example, you may connect a video source to a 4K display and not see a signal showing at all. In such a case, you can turn the rotary dial to the EDID setting that contains a 1080p resolution, and at that setting, the two devices may recognize each other. If not, you can select the next EDID setting on the dial.
The EDID Emulator features an HDMI male connector on one end and HDMI female on the other. It can be connected anywhere in your video chain. For instance, if you have a Blu-ray player and a flat-panel TV connected over an HDMI cable, the EDID Emulator can be plugged in between the TV and HDMI cable. As an inline device, the EDID Emulator receives power from the device to which it is connected, so no external power source is required.
What is EDID? Digital TVs, projectors, and other display sources have certain information stored in them, such as resolution and color characteristics. This information is called EDID (Extended Display Identification Data). When a video source is connected to the display, the stored information is automatically communicated from the display to the video source. This communication between the two devices ensures that the best signal possible will be displayed.

When your video source doesn't recognize the EDID of your display, you can plug in the EDID Emulator between the two devices and try to learn the EDID, or try preinstalled EDID settings.
Turn the rotary switch to the first position to learn the EDID of the display. In some cases, a video device won't recognize the EDID of a display because of some tiny incompatibilities. The first rotary position can often smooth things out by allowing the video source to learn the EDID of the display so that the info is recognized.
How is this done? Set the rotary switch to 0 and connect an HDMI cable to the desired display. Connect the EDID Emulator to a video device, which will also serve as a power source. Once the EDID Emulator receives the power needed, the LED on top will start flashing red. This means the Emulator is ready to learn. At this point, connect the HDMI cable of your display to the female end of the emulator. The LED will then turn purple, meaning that it is learning the EDID. When the LED turns solid blue, it means the emulator has been stored and is ready to use. The emulator will retain the latest learned EDID until the learning procedure is performed again.
Turn the rotary switch to a desired preset from 1 through F to select one of the preinstalled EDID. For example, if you connect a video source to a 4K display, and you don't see a signal showing at all, you can try one of the preinstalled EDID. You can turn the rotary dial to the EDID setting that contains the 1080p resolution setting, and at that setting, the two devices may recognize each other. If not, you can select the next EDID setting on the dial.
