The Canon 20mm Sumire Prime T1.5 is a manual focus prime lens that covers full frame and Super 35 sensor formats providing center-to-edge resolution that supports 4K production. It features a PL mount and has focus scales marked in feet. The Sumire lens series is designed with the goal of creating pleasing facial close-ups across all ages, genders, and ethnicities. This effect is increased as the lens approaches its widest aperture. The 20mm offers a maximum T-stop of 1.5 and has an 11-blade iris that provides round natural-looking, out-of-focus highlights for a pleasing bokeh. The lens barrel features 300° smooth rotation from close focus to infinity, giving you a high degree of precision and consistent focus.

The lens is designed to minimize focus breathing. It offers focus distance markings on both sides of the barrel, with the rear markings on an angled surface, making it readable from either side of the camera. Some of the markings are done in phosphorescent paint, making them easier to see them in dim conditions. All lenses in the Sumire series share the same 114mm front barrel diameter, focus rotation, and focus and iris gear positions, allowing for easier lens swaps.

The Sumire Prime Lens series features a nuanced look as the lens aperture approaches its maximum setting. This subtly modifies the textural renderings of the human facial close-up and a pleasing bokeh.

The lens features a large-diameter aspheric lens and anomalous dispersion glass, for high-resolution image reproduction from image center to image edge. The lens produces warm color tones that help to softly capture facial expressions, and shares a unified color balance with other Canon Cinema lenses.

The 11-blade clickless iris produces artistic and beautiful out-of-focus areas, creating a more three-dimensional bokeh. The use of an odd number of blades helps reduce flaring of specular highlights.

The Sumire Prime Lens series features a unified front diameter (114mm), rotation angle (300°) and gear position on the focus and iris rings.

The focus and iris rings are designed to maintain a consistent amount of resistance and operating torque in order to help provide the camera operator or assistant with predictable lens operation.

Lens markings are displayed on both sides of the lens. To improve visibility in dim light conditions, indicator markings with phosphorescent paint have been adopted for the front barrel for right-side viewing.

All lenses in the series except the 14mm accept a 105mm diameter threaded filter in the front of the lens.

Q: 1. This is a 50mm on a full frame camera, so the field of view would be equivalent to a 70mm if used on a Super 35 sensor?

A: Yes, the field of view equivalent of the Rokinon XEEN CF 50mm T1.5 Pro Cine Lens (PL Mount) on Super 35mm is between 70-75mm. Every manufacturer plays around with their Super 35mm sensor dimensions.

Q: 9. I know this lens is built for full-frame but I'm curious about the coverage if adapted to the Fuji GFX mount. Extreme vignette?

A: Full frame lenses like the Rokinon XEEN CF 50mm T1.5 Pro Cine Lens (EF Mount) would have a bad vignette when mounted to a medium format camera like the Fuji GFX, as the image will not full cover the sensor.

A: There is no official manufacturer information regarding this. However, it is my opinion that the lenses can be converted. However, this should only be done by a qualified technician and not by a user in the field.

Minimal distortion. Awesome on a full frame. Still wide enough for me on a small sensor. I was tossing up between the 16-35L and this won over because of money situ. And I'm happy with the lighter weight.

I have been using Canon equipment exclusively for 30+ years. I feel that I know their products fairly well by now. IMO, Canon's wide angle lenses have ALWAYS been their Achille's heel. Many Pro's wish they would devote more resources to improving their wide angle lenses. Having said that, I use my 20mm on my 1Ds and 5D, both full frame digitals. These cameras utilize nearly all of the lense's image circle and for that reason they really show a lense's weakness (if they have one). I have found that for really decent corner sharpness, only f/11 yields excellent results. Larger apertures produce softness, smaller apertures result in diffraction. I have run comprehensive tests on 2 copies of this lens; the results were very similar. On Canon's other cameras, which have cropping factors and use more of the lens' sweet spot, the edges of the picture are a lot better. The lens is well built (despite using lots of plastic), and the auto focus mechanism is fast and accurate. The f/2.8 aperture allows viewing and focusing in less than ideal lighting conditions.Other 3rd party lens makers also yield less than stellar performance in this focal length but I feel that Canon could bring their enormous resources to bear and produce much better wide angle lenses than they currently do. What magic do Zeiss optics possess that Canon could not duplicate if they so chose? Expertise: Semi working Pro Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 Distagon

Band H is the best. The employees at so very knowledgeable and eager to assist you. Their delivery time in phenomenal. I am using this lens to photograph the milky way. In August I will use it in a trip to Wyoming to photograph the upcoming solar eclipse and the surrounding national parks. I will use it for both landscape an astrophotography. Wish I had had it on an aurora trip I took several years ago.

Using it mostly for video. Wide field of view, no no visible distortion. The edges wrap around when you pan, but this looks nice.
