The black I2 Instrument Microphone, Standard Gain, with 2.5mm Waterproof Locking Connector for Lectrosonics MM200, MM400, MM400a, MM400b, and MM400c Wireless Transmitters from Countryman is a mic that has been engineered from the ground up for natural on- and off-axis frequency response, low-noise, and precise polar patterns with deep nulls. This tiny instrument microphone can be used to capture audio in sound reinforcement applications for saxophone, violin, viola, cello, double bass, acoustic guitars, piano, brass, and percussion instruments.

The I2 instrument microphone is suitable for distance miking that is invisible in front of audiences and on camera. This version offers a standard gain and is suitable for close miking and loud instruments like horns. It is supplied with a foam windscreen, a basic clip, and a carrying case. In addition, the 5' cable is permanently attached to the mic and terminates to a 2.5mm waterproof locking connector for direct connection to Lectrosonics MM200, MM400, MM400a, MM400b, and MM400c wireless bodypack transmitters.

The I2 maintains excellent pattern control and frequency response at all angles. It offers uncolored recordings and reduced feedback issues.

Flexible close miking techniques can be aided by the various selection of instrument mounts (sold separately), which position securely and gently to strings, brass, and more.

Small size and sonic precision makes this microphone suitable for X-Y, M-S, and other techniques that rely on accurate, coincident positioning, and consistent patterns.

A microphone with a figure-8 (bidirectional) pickup pattern is sensitive to sound coming from the front and coming from the rear, but has a very high rejection for sound coming from the sides. Great for mid/side and Blumlein stereo applications.

Q: 1. I'm concerned about the description of the -12db backup recording. Obviously you want to use professional-quality XLR mics, but the manual says that the backup-recording feature only applies to the L/R inputs. But those appear to be the inputs for the attachable modules, not the phantom-powering XLR connectors on the unit. The optional XLR module doesn't provide phantom power. This means the backup-recording feature is useless for phantom-powered mics! Is this really the situation? What is the point of having this feature if it can't be used with high-quality mics for location recording, which is when you need that feature the most? Thanks for any insight.

A: As far as we know this is the case. A back-up recording in this device is just that - a back-up, insurance recording - just in case of disaster. Something is better than nothing. Backup-recordthe ultimate safety net. When turned on during the recording of WAV files, the H6 automatically records a duplicate set of L/R tracks, but with 12dB less input gain. Even if the original L/R track is distorted, chances are the Backup version is fine. You can listen to either set of tracks simply by going to the Backup File option in the PROJECT menu. When turned OFF, you'll hear the original L/R tracks; when turned ON, you'll hear the lower-level Backup tracks instead. Pick the one you prefer and use it as your L/R master. Bacon saved.

Q: 2. How to connect Nikon D750 and syn the video and Zoom H6 audio?

A: To connect the H6's 3.5mm Line out to the camera's 3.5mm Mic in you will use an attenuator cable, like this one from Whirlwind. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/767986-REG/Whirlwind_WHH4NL3_5_WHH4NL3_5_Line_to_Microphone.html Because there is no time code involved, to sync you will need a software based solution, like Plural Eyes. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1226419-REG/red_giant_sho_pluraleyes4_d_pluraleyes_4_download.html

Q: 3. Greetings, which are frequency rates of the device and (or) microphones? My university is looking for 20 - 44.000 Hz because of speech - songs, even special songs - for example the Overtone singng ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overtone ).

A: This product is calibrated to record from 20Hz-20kHz.

Q: 4. How do I record my i-phone to the zoom h6 recorder?

A: I think the line cable (aux cable) would work better specially if you want to record a call or convo from your phone

Q: 5. Can I mount it on a boom pole?

A: with some rigging, yes. I use velcro.

Q: 6. Can you jam timecode into the Zoom H6?

A: No, the H6 does not support time code.

Q: 7. I remember hearing that you can use a power brick with the Zoom H6 (plug the power brick into the USB port). Can anyone confirm if this is correct, and if so, are there limitations / recommendations on power brick specs?

A: I've used the Zoom H6 plugged via the USB port without a problem.

Q: 8. Is there a version of this that actually holds two receivers for the two transmitters?

A: This SKB iSeries Waterproof Case is designed to hold one Sony URX-P03D receiver, which is the two-channel receiver, along with two UTX-B40 bodypack transmitters, a UTX-M40 wireless handheld mic or a different handheld mic, and a UTX-P40 plug-on transmitter. If you are using two single-channel Sony UWP systems (two URX-P40 or URX-P03 receivers and two bodypack transmitters, you could modify the foam in the space where the plug-on transmitter fits and use it for the second receiver. We also have the SKB iSeries Waterproof Case for Sony UWP-D16, Sennheiser EW, or Senal Wireless Combo Mic Systems (B&H # SK3I09074BH1) which is for the single-channel Sony receiver, a bodypack transmitter and plug-on transmitter. As another option, you can purchase a case with cubed foam like the SKB 3I-0907-4-C Small Mil-Std Waterproof Case 4" Deep with Cubed Foam (B&H # SK3I09074BC) and then customize the interior to fit your wireless gear. The same case is also available with Think Tank dividers which are padded and removable (they attach with velcro) so you can customize the interior to accommodate your gear.

Q: 9. Is this a good mic for interviews? Like voice over quality interview? Im trying to choose between this or the Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun mic, some help would be REALLY helpful.

A: I have compared the Zoom capsules to the MKE via YouTube demos and bought the MKE. It’s got a nice ‘broadcast tone’ but mildly so and not gauzy like an SM7b. It also has less noise and greater off-axis rejection than any of the Zoom capsules. Also, it’s free from the proprietary tethering which afflict the capsules. The mic is much larger and heavier, however. Ideally, you’d get both the MKE and an external recorder like this H6 or similar. I’d consider the capsules for limited budget, convenience & stereo recording but not for the utmost in sound quality, directionality or independence.

Q: 10. Does it come with editing software? if not any recommendations?

A: Nope, it doesnt come with a software but it is a great tool for recording outside or in the studio. I've even used it as an audio interface and it works fine. Very good quality. The only thing I dont like is that it is advertised as 96khz but when you use it as an audio interface on a multitrack session the audio output is only 16khz.
