The black I2 Bass and Cello Microphone Kit with 3.5mm Locking Connector for Senal AWS-2000T Wireless Transmitters from Countryman is a mic that has been built from the ground up for smooth frequency response, low noise, and precise polar patterns with deep nulls and natural on- and off-axis response. It can be used to capture natural audio for this instrument.

The I2 microphone is suitable for distance miking that is invisible in front of audiences and on camera. This version features increased sensitivity for distance miking and captures detail for quieter instruments. Flexible close miking techniques are aided by the bass and cello mount, which sits securely behind the bridge with a positioning arm for placement. In addition, the 5' cable is hardwired to the mic and terminates with a 3.5mm locking connector for direct connection to Senal AWS-2000T wireless bodypack transmitters.

The I2 maintains excellent pattern control and frequency response at all angles. It offers uncolored recordings and reduced feedback issues.

Flexible close miking techniques are aided by the instrument mounts, which position securely and gently on the instrument for capturing audio.

Small size and sonic precision makes this microphone suitable for X-Y, M-S, and other techniques that rely on accurate, coincident positioning and consistent patterns.

A microphone with a figure-8 (bidirectional) pickup pattern is sensitive to sound coming from the front and coming from the rear, but has a very high rejection for sound coming from the sides. Great for mid/side and Blumlein stereo applications.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do you need a Cloudlifter with this interface? I want to pair it with the Rode PodMic, but I do podcast recording/editing on audacity.

A: No, a Cloudlifter is not required for the Rode PodMic and in most applications, people who use the PodMic do not need additional gain. The Senal XU-1648 XLR-USB Interface provides up to 35 dB of gain. If you do find that more gain is desired, the Cloudlifer can be added to the signal chain as an optional accessory.

Q: 2. I've read the specs on both, how does the Senal XU-1648 compare with the Shure X2U in use?

A: The Senal is very similar in use to that of the Shure. The Shure would handle dynamic mics better since it has more gain, but for condenser mics the Senal would be very comparable.

Q: 3. We do not see any headphone jack in the pictures

A: The Senal XU-1648 XLR-USB Interface does have a 3.5mm TRS headphone jack located on the side, next to the headphone volume control dial. If you enlarge the second photo, you can see the tiny headphone logo (shown sideways) on the top left side in the photo. It is difficult to see clearly in the photo without enlarging it. Q: 4. What wind protection can I use with this?

A: You can find a selection of compatible windshields listed under the "Accessories" tab on the item page. Click on the tab for "Wind Protection" and you'll see items such as the Auray WSS-2018 Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones - 18cm (B&H # AUWSS2018), Rycote Standard Hole Softie Windscreen with 19-22mm Hole (B&H # RYS18M), and Rycote 18cm Super-Softie Wind Shield for Shotgun Mics - Standard Hole (B&H # RYSS18M).

Q: 5. How many dB is the front-to-back response?

A: The manufacturer has not provided this information.

Q: 6. Will this work with an ipad using a usb adapter cable into the ipad?

A: No it will not. It must be used with a computer.

Q: 7. Who actually consider 16bits and 48khz Studio quality anymore? Releases on DVDs and Bluray give REAL studio quality including but not limited to 24 bit 96 khz. Now if this had at the very least a 24 bit option. it might be worth the $60 your asking.

Q: 8. What is the main difference to the long shotgun microphone? Which one is better suitable as an on-camera microphone?

A: The main difference is the option to power the long shotgun mic using a single AA battery or phantom power. The short shotgun mic operates on phantom power only. The mic element, frequency response range, high-pass filter, and specs for sensitivity level, maximum SPL, signal to noise ratio are the same for both mics when using phantom power. For selecting the better on-camera mic, it really depends on the camera that you will be using and whether or not the camera supplies phantom power or if you will be using a separate phantom power supply. If you are using a DSLR, mirrorless camera or handycam with a single 3.5mm mic input, the long shotgun will allow you to connect the mic directly to the camera using an XLR to 3.5mm cable and power the mic with a AA batttery.

Q: 9. Does the Phantom Power for Condenser Mikes come from the USB or does this unit use batteries?

A: It is USB powered.

Q: 10. Could this microphone be useful when put on a player during a game? (aka mic'd up)

A: Yes, the Rode Wireless GO II Single Compact Digital Wireless Microphone System/Recorder could be used for capturing in-game audio when properly secured to an athlete during gameplay. You may want to consider adding a lavalier microphone such as the Rode Lavalier GO Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone for Wireless GO Systems (BH #ROLAVGO) so that the transmitter can be properly secured elsewhere in the player's uniform: https://bhpho.to/3LbG3AZ
