For the 5D mkIII and similar cameras you will need an additional adapter that is able to provide the power to the mic such as a Beachtek DXA-SLR ULTRA, which will allow the connection of 2 mics, level control, metering and limiters to protect from overload. Alternatively a battery powered mic will also work directly connected. The NTG-2 would be an example.
