The black I2 Bass and Cello Microphone Kit with 2.5mm Locking Connector for Lectrosonics M170, M170-BGO, M170-LS, M170-XLR, M175, and M175-LS Wireless Transmitters from Countryman is a mic that has been built from the ground up for smooth frequency response, low noise, and precise polar patterns with deep nulls and natural on- and off-axis response. It can be used to capture natural audio for this instrument.

The I2 microphone is suitable for distance miking that is invisible in front of audiences and on camera. This version features increased sensitivity for distance miking and captures detail for quieter instruments. Flexible close miking techniques are aided by the bass and cello mount, which sits securely behind the bridge with a positioning arm for placement. In addition, the 5' cable is hardwired to the mic and terminates with a 2.5mm locking connector for direct connection to Lectrosonics M170, M170-BGO, M170-LS, M170-XLR, M175, and M175-LS wireless bodypack transmitters.

The I2 maintains excellent pattern control and frequency response at all angles. It offers uncolored recordings and reduced feedback issues.

Flexible close miking techniques are aided by the instrument mounts, which position securely and gently on the instrument for capturing audio.

Small size and sonic precision makes this microphone suitable for X-Y, M-S, and other techniques that rely on accurate, coincident positioning and consistent patterns.

The cardioid polar pattern is effective for picking up sound directly in front of the microphone and is less sensitive to sound directly behind the microphone. It picks up about 1/3 less ambient noise than the omnidirectional polar pattern, so the working distance (the distance a performer could be positioned from the microphone) is approximately 1.7 times that of the omni. The cardioid pattern works best when you can position the microphone directly towards the sound you wish to record (a lead singer, for example) and directly away from unwanted sound sources like a crowd or a loud monitor).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. how do I buy another transmitter?

A: Unfortunately we do not carry the Rode Wireless GO transmitter separately. It is only possible to connect a maximum of two transmitters to each receiver.

Q: 2. I understand this unit is made to accept standard 3.5mm cable. But has anyone tried a lav mic with locking 3.5mm connection? Did it work? I have a Countryman B3 with 3.5mm locking connection.

A: The compatibility of specific locking 3.5mm connectors varies from brand to brand when attempting to use them with the Rode Wireless GO II 2-Person Compact Digital Wireless Microphone System/Recorder. This largely depends on the connector's locking mechanism being able to move far enough out of the way to allow a full connection to the Rode transmitter input. From our own testing we have found that Countryman B3 microphones with this connection typically work with and are compatible for use with the Rode Wireless GO II.

Q: 3. Are you able to mute the individual Transmitters via the Receiver or App?

A: Yes you can directly from the transmitter

Q: 4. Will these work with GoPro Hero 8?

A: Yes, using this adaper: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1274435-REG/gopro_aamic_001_3_5mm_mic_adapter.html

Q: 5. How much bias power voltage will the transmitter-recorder provide to the lav mic input? Pro lav mics like the DPA or Countryman will require 3-5v.

A: The voltage of the microphone input on the transmitter within the Rode Wireless GO II 2-Person Compact Digital Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System/Recorder Kit is not made available by the manufacturer.

Q: 6. How long can the transmitter record audio in stand-alone mode and where is the file stored?

A: The transmitter in the Rode Wireless GO II Single 1-Person Compact Digital Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System/Recorder Kit can record and store over 40 hours of compressed audio and up to seven hours of uncompressed WAV format audio in 48k/24-bit. In Uncompressed recording mode, the Wireless GO II records audio in blocks that are 30 minutes and 44 seconds in length. When the internal storage is full, the unit will continue to record, overwriting the oldest recorded block so you always have the most recent audio available, with no need to delete files or format the storage. For this reason, it is best to back up and offload your audio from the transmitter after each recording session.

Q: 7. In combination with a 20dB physical pad is line-level input possible? For example the Whirlwind IMPAD20?

A: Rode confirmed that a -20DB pad will enable the transmitter to handle line level input.

Q: 8. Can i use this system with Tram TR-50 or Sanken lav?

A: Third party lavalier compatibility with the Rode Wireless GO II 2-Person Compact Digital Wireless Microphone System/Recorder is a case by case scenario. This is due to the Rode system using a "Sennheiser" wiring configuration with a non-locking input connection. Many microphones wired for Sennheiser can be used with this system if the physical locking mechanisms on the microphone connector can move far enough out of the way to allow a full connection with the input on the Rode transmitters. The Sanken COS-11D and TRAM TR-50 are not fully confirmed as compatible with the Rode Wireless GO II system.

Q: 9. Can you use just one transmitter or do you have to use two?

A: One at a time is fine too.

Q: 10. Does the built-in recording capability of the Rode transmitter make a separate digital audio recorder (such as Zoom) unnecessary, at least for less frequent/demanding work?

A: The built-in recording function is certainly useful, but it is usually preferable to have all recordings made on one device when possible for convenience and the ability to have tracks synced more easily.
