The black I2 Bass and Cello Microphone Kit with LEMO 3-Pin Connector for Lectrosonics and Sennheiser SSM and SK 2000 Wireless Transmitters from Countryman is a mic that has been built from the ground up for smooth frequency response, low noise, and precise polar patterns with deep nulls and natural on- and off-axis response. It can be used to capture natural audio for this instrument.

The I2 microphone is suitable for distance miking that is invisible in front of audiences and on camera. This version features increased sensitivity for distance miking and captures detail for quieter instruments. Flexible close miking techniques are aided by the bass and cello mount, which sits securely behind the bridge with a positioning arm for placement. In addition, the 5' cable is hardwired to the mic and terminates with a LEMO 3-pin connector for direct connection to Lectrosonics and Sennheiser SSM and SK 2000 wireless bodypack transmitters.

The I2 maintains excellent pattern control and frequency response at all angles. It offers uncolored recordings and reduced feedback issues.

Flexible close miking techniques are aided by the instrument mounts, which position securely and gently on the instrument for capturing audio.

Small size and sonic precision makes this microphone suitable for X-Y, M-S, and other techniques that rely on accurate, coincident positioning and consistent patterns.

The cardioid polar pattern is effective for picking up sound directly in front of the microphone and is less sensitive to sound directly behind the microphone. It picks up about 1/3 less ambient noise than the omnidirectional polar pattern, so the working distance (the distance a performer could be positioned from the microphone) is approximately 1.7 times that of the omni. The cardioid pattern works best when you can position the microphone directly towards the sound you wish to record (a lead singer, for example) and directly away from unwanted sound sources like a crowd or a loud monitor).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does anyone use this with the Sony F6X? I read the FX6 has problems with some mics

A: The Sony FX6 is fully compatible with the Sennheiser AVX-ME2 system.

Q: 2. If I already have a MKE2 Lav will it work with this system? are the transmitter and receiver the same for both ME2 and MKE2?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser MKE2 lavalier microphone with locking 3.5mm connector is directly compatible with the transmitter in the Sennheiser AVX-ME2 SET Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System (1.9 GHz). Yes, the Sennheiser AVX-ME2 set and the Sennheiser AVX-MKE2 set both come with the same transmitter and receiver and the only difference between these two sets is the lavalier microphone that is included.

Q: 3. What is the usable operating range for this product (max distance between transmitter and receiver)?

A: I don't know exactly but I tested mine out and it was FAR! With nothing blocking the distance between the transmitter and receiver I got clean audio from my house to the end of my street which is about 6 houses down. My gues would be at least 600 feet. The only reason that I didn't test it further is because my street came to an end and I know that I most likely will never come close to even needing that much distance. I absolutely love this system.

Q: 4. Several on camera monitors have a second cold-shoe mount on the side for something like a microphone. Would there be any issue using this microphone sideways?

A: yes. this mic is designed to give to the left speaker what is left of frame and the same with the right. something or someone that is interested b the middle (in front of the camera) will get an extra boost as well as separation from off camera sounds.if you orient the mic as ou mentioned, you'll get sound bouncing off the ground in one speaker and sound from the sky above in the other which will make for a weird stereo image that at the same time adds noise to the dialog that would otherwise not be there.better to use a mono shotgun style mic or find a way to flip this one right side up.

Q: 5. If I want to use two of these mics(ie. 2 seperate mics and recievers), will they operate normally? Will they interfere with each other?

A: From what I read and what I was told they should operate perfectly .

Q: 6. Could I use these for PA (public address) purposes? Will the delay 19millesecond affect what the audience hears from the room speakers?

A: You could but you would be better off using a proper PA. The lav is omni directional which is not well suited for public speaking. You will pick up a lot of things you don't want.

Q: 7. can you use a hand held mic with the AVX- ME2 if so what adapter would you need?

A: You can purchase the Sennheiser SKM AVX-835S Digital Handheld Microphone Transmitter (B&H # SESKMAVX8354) to use with the AVX EKP Camera-Mount Digital Plug-In Receiver that is included in the AVX-ME2 SET Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System. However, only one transmitter can be used at a time with the AVX EKP receiver. Sennheiser does not offer a dual-channel wireless camera-mountable receiver. There is an AVX combo set available that includes the bodypack transmitter and lavalier mic together packaged together with the handheld transmitter, which is the Sennheiser AVX-Combo SET Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Microphone System (B&H # SEAVXHLS).This system is intended to give you the option of using either transmitter with the receiver, but not both together simultaneously.

Q: 8. Can the receiver be powered/charged via a Dtap source? (DC 11.9-17v, Unregulated). With a Dtap to Microusb cable?

A: A D-tap battery would have too much voltage and would damage the AVX receiver. I would recommend using an external power bank, such as the mophie 22,000mAh powerstation AC Portable Battery Pack (Black), BH #MO4167.

Q: 9. Can I use this system in Europe and Israel / Jordan?

A: This is a digital wireless system and can be used internationally.

Q: 10. I am wondering about the output spec on the 1/8" connector on this receiver. Sennheiser's own website is useless (also manuals) in terms of actual spec. B&H says this is TRS 1/8" unbalanced line level. However unbalanced is normally 2 conductor (TS) and not 3 conductor (TRS). I want to connect this to a mixer and so want to make sure I have the right pinout and am not playing guess and check. Can someone tell me the actual physical/electrical spec?

A: It is an unballanced connection with a standard 3.5mm plug that will work with anything that will accept 3.5mm (except things wired for Sony). The tip is hot and the sleeve and ring are shorted together for the sheild If you are looking to get into a mixer I assume an XLR might be a better option.
