Vloggers, mobile journalists, and run-and-gun videographers will appreciate the simple operation and quality sound of the Movo PhotoVXR10 PRO, an ultracompact, camera-mount shotgun microphone for DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, camcorders, smartphones, tablets, or portable audio recorders. This microphone plugs directly into your device through its 3.5mm connection. No batteries are required, and no settings need to be configured to get the mic to operate—just plug it in and it works.

This mic is the pro version of the VXR10. Compared to the standard VXR10, the VXR10 PRO sports higher sensitivity, increased signal-to-noise performance, extended frequency response, and a more directional supercardioid polar pattern that enables an enhanced and focused audio capture.  All of these facets result in a more polished, professional sound. The VXR10 PRO includes TRRS and TRS cables, a Rycote detachable shockmount, a foam windscreen, a furry windshield, and a carrying case.

Use this microphone with DSLR/mirrorless cameras, smartphones, and audio recorders. Whether the device sports a TRS or TRRS connection, the necessary cable is included, as is a furry windscreen for getting a great sound outdoors, and a shoe shockmount from Rycote to reduce handling noise.

This tiny microphone attaches to the included shoe shockmount, which in turn mounts on your device's shoe mount. It connects over a 3.5mm cable, either TRS to devices such as DSLR cameras, or TRRS to compatible smartphones. It's powered by the device, and requires no menu-diving to setup. Once you make the connection, you're simply good to go.

The VXR10 PRO offers a higher sensitivity (-36 dB), a wider frequency response (20 Hz to 18 kHz), and sharper directionality when compared to t the standard VXR10.

The mic houses a dedicated 3.5mm headphone port, enabling easy monitoring of the audio signal without disturbing the main output connection.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will it work if I connect it directly to the camcorder?

A: Yes if the camera has a 3.5mm input and provides plug-in power. Please consult your camera's user manual to see if the 3.5mm microphone input provides plug-in power. Most do, but it is worth checking before you purchase.

Q: 2. What diameter is the ring light?

A: The Movo Photo VGC-3/VXR10 3-Arm Selfie Ring Light is 3.5 inches in diameter

Q: 3. Can you use this for the DJI Osmo?

A: You can, but you will need either the Saramonic SR-C2006 or DJI Osmo Pocket Audio Adapter.

Q: 4. Is there a deadcat accessory for this mic?

A: There is not a deadbeat that is specifically designed for it, but the Saramonic M3-WS slides right over the Vmic Mini's windscreen and works extremely well.

Q: 5. can i use this on iphone 11? Need a mount?

A: Yes, the Saramonic Vmic Mini Shotgun Microphone can be connected to an iPhone using the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APLAADAP). As a mount for the phone and mic, you can use the Saramonic SR-BSP1C Smartphone Holder for Tripods and Stabilizing Handgrips (B&H # SASRBSP1C) which can attach to a tripod, monopod, stand, or handgrip.

Q: 6. I'm not getting any signal from the headphone output. I'm using a standard 1/8th 3.5 mm headphone. Any suggestions?

A: Have you tried a different pair of headphones to see if that works? What do you have the microphone connected to?

Q: 7. Is the line out supposed to be a mic out instead? Reason why I am asking is because I want to plug it into a Rode Wireless Go, and I don't want to blow the receiver. If it's indeed a line out, the signal might be too hot I assume.

A: It does seem odd that the main audio output on the VXR10 PRO would be labeled as a "line" output when the audio output signal is mic level. It is most likely just improper translation from Chinese to English. The instruction manual and product photos show it as the proper output to use when connecting the VXR10 PRO to the mic input on cameras and recorders. Since the primary output on a microphone is a mic level audio signal and the mic inputs on a camera and recorder typically require mic level signal, it seems that the label on the VXR10 PRO is creating confusion since the signal delivered is a mic level audio signal. The headphone output does provide an actual line level signal.

Q: 8. Will it work with a camera that provides no bus power over the connector?

A: No it will not. The host device must supply the requisite plug-in power voltage.

Q: 9. What angle does this microphone pick up? Can it handle two people on a couch a few feet away from the mic?

A: The Movo Photo VXR10 PRO Shotgun Microphone picks up sound from the from the front in a supercardioid pattern, which is narrow and very focused. If the two subjects are sitting very close to each other, the mic should be able to capture audio from both people without any problems.

Q: 10. What angle does this pick up sound from?

A: This compact microphone has a supercardioid polar pattern, so sound comes into the front of the mic and is cancelled around the sides. Supercardioid microphones are very directional and most sensitive to on -axis sounds, where the mic points. This type of mic is good for capturing dialogue when fairly close to a subject, and can also be used as an on-camera mic for general audio with video.

Great price! super small! Really catches the vocals and eliminates unnecessary reverb or room haas effect characteristics and just let the vocals (or whatever you are recording) be the only thing you hear.

This little mic works very well as a boom on the micro boom pole included in the kit. I hung it on the pole and over the heads of the two people doing a video show - good sound. This is a must of you are video taping with your DSLR and want better sound than can be provided from the in-camera mic.
