Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this module work with other Panasonic models like the S5IIX or G9?

A: As of today, June 6th 24, the Panasonic DMW-XLR2 XLR Microphone Adapter is only compatible with the Lumix GH7.

Q: 2. Does the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 work with the Panasonic D7? of not what comparable product does?

A: If you are referring to the Lumix G7, I am sorry it is not. Instead you would need to look at a product that connects to the 3.5mm mic input, such as the Tascam DR-60DmkII 4-Input / 4-Track Multi-Track Field Recorder, BH #TADR60DMKII. https://bhpho.to/2ewFSVe

Q: 3. Does this support line-level audio?

A: Yes, the Panasonic DMW-XLR2 XLR Microphone Adapter accepts line level audio.

Q: 4. Would this work with Leica SL2 since it works well with S1 series cameras ?

A: No, this Panasonic DMW-XLR1 XLR Microphone Adapter would not work with s1 series cameras.

Q: 5. Since this is powered by the GH5, how does it effect battery life of the camera, especially if using a phantom powered mic?

A: Of course, it uses more battery power. But the batteries are so cheap, that I bought 3 of them.

Q: 6. If I connect this device to the hotshoe on a GH6 camera, how do I set the camera to receive the audio signal from it? Or does it automatically detect it?

A: Hi Larry! The camera will automatically detect the XLR adaptor and use the microphone. -G

Q: 7. Does the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 work with Nikon Z8 camera?

A: The Panasonic DMW-XLR1 XLR Microphone Adapter will only work with Lumix (Panasonic) cameras. For the Nikon Z8 you will need the TASCAM CA-XLR2d-AN XLR Microphone Adapter Kit for Cameras (3.5mm Analog). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1679649-REG/tascam_ca_xlr2d_an_xlr_mic_adapter_for.html

Q: 8. Can you mount the XLR1 'backwards' so that the bulk of the unit hangs off the rear of the camera? Need to fit with existing accs

A: Unfortunately, the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 XLR Microphone Adapter cannot be mounted backwards.

Q: 9. So this actually receives an audio signal through the hot shoe? I don't need to plug a 1/8 cable into the camera like other mic adapters I use with the GH4?

A: You are correct.

Q: 10. Does Zoom make this in 32bit float wide dynamic range for Panasonic Lumix? (like an F3, but sync'd with no cables).

A: No, Zoom does not offer any XLR adapters for cameras and there are no XLR adapters that we are aware of that have the ability to record audio directly, the XLR adapters are simply used to provide an XLR connection for a camera that does not have XLR inputs. The resolution for recording audio is determined by the capabilities of the camera or a recorder. A recorder like the Zoom F3 Portable Field Recorder does have the ability to record audio at 32-bit, but it does not have the ability to connect to the camera without using cables and the audio recorded by the camera would be limited to the capabilities of the camera. So the F3 would be able to record 32-bit float but it would be recorded to an SD card. Unless the camera is capable of recording 32-bit float audio, the audio from the recorder would not be transferred at the same resolution to the camera, even if it were connected using a cable or cable-free connection. However, you can utilize the timecode functions on the F3 and a compatible camera to accurately sync audio and video in post production using timecode.
