The PowerSync 16-80 Transceiver from Impact is a combination wireless transmitter/receiver with 80 channels for elimination of interference, as well as 4 groups that can each handle multiple devices that can be triggered individually or simultaneously. Besides remote flash triggering, with the appropriate optional cable, the PowerSync 16-80 can focus and trigger your camera in single, continuous, and bulb modes or be used as a wireless shutter release.

The PowerSync 16-80 is used with at least 1 other unit. In its most basic mode, one transceiver slides onto the camera's hot shoe or is mounted to a bracket's cold shoe and is connected to the camera using the included 2.5mm to PC cable. A second transceiver acts as a receiver and accepts a shoe mount flash using its built-in hot shoe or is wired to the flash in the case of power packs or monolight. The connected flash will fire at distances up to 720'. You can even extend the range further by adding a third intermediate transceiver to extend the range to 1,440'.

A similar technique is used to fire your camera remotely by connecting a transceiver to it using an optional dedicated cable - a handy feature for macro photography. Add another handheld PowerSync 16-80 to trigger the camera remotely, like a wireless cable release. Pressing the release button halfway focuses the camera; fully depressing it triggers the shutter. Taking this a step further, you can fire the camera and a flash remotely with just 3 transceivers - one connected to the camera, one to the flash, and one handheld acting as a transmitter.

The long exposure mode brings you into the realm of the unit's additional features. With a wired transceiver or a wireless 2-tranceiver setup, depressing the bulb button activates a digital stopwatch on the LCD screen that indicates elapsed time. Stop the exposure by depressing the button fully.

Ideal for surveillance or wildlife photography using a remote camera, Continuous Focus Lock minimizes triggering lag time by locking the camera into focus mode, similar to depressing the camera's focus release button half way. With the PowerSync 16-80, you'll never have to miss a shot because you had to wake a sleeping camera.

The grouping function allows you to assign each light in a portrait setup to one of the 4 groups allowing you to use all of the lights in unison or to add or subtract an accent, hairlight or backlight, for example, at will for different effects. Alternatively, you can assign a channel to 4 different lighting setups in a large studio and move from setup to setup for different looks or products. Each setup would require at least 1 transceiver wired to a master light to set off the optical slaves on the other units. With its reasonable cost you could, of course, wire a transceiver to each flash in the studio.

The PowerSync 16-80 runs on 2 included, easily-sourced AA batteries. Also included are 2.5 mm to PC and 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm flash sync cables, a lanyard, pouch case, self-adhering accessory shoe, and a 3.5 mm to 1/4" phono adapter. The PowerSync 16-80 is backward compatible with PowerSync 16 but limited to 16 channels.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with a canon 6d markii?

A: This can be used with the Canon EOS 6D Mark II.

Q: 2. Hi, I have a set of 3 Impact VC500WL strobes, does this transceiver work with the internal receiver of the stobes to trigger them?

A: I am not familiar with the Impact strobes. I have used them on Profoto's Acute2 1200 & 2400 generators and Alien Bee 1600. I have found they do not work on Norman 12/12 (very old).

Q: 3. I bought the Impact PowerSync16-80 Transceiver because it's backward compatible, but it will not fire my Speedlite 430 EX or my Travelite 750's... I can see that it is triggering on the display, but nothing happens. Any advice?

A: The PowerSync 16-80 is backward compatible with the Impact PowerSync 16. The PowerSync 16-80 will only trigger PowerSync 16-80 and PowerSync 16 receivers. When using the PowerSync 16-80, which has 80 channels, with the PowerSync 16, which has only 16 channels, use the dip switch guide found inside the battery door of the PowerSync 16-80. The PowerSync 16-80 uses channels 65-80 to correspond to the 16 channels on the PowerSync 16. Additionally, make sure all groups are shut off on the PowerSync 16-80.

Q: 4. Can I use this transceiver with Elinchrom D-Lite 400W/s RX 4 Flash Head?

A: If you had 2 of these transceivers you could use it with the Elinchrom D-Lite 400W/s RX 4 Flash Head. The Impact PowerSync 16-80 will not fire the internal receiver on the Elinchrom. You need to have 1 PowerSync 16-80 attached to the 3.5mm sync port of the Elinchrome and 1 PowewerSync 16-80 on the camera.

Q: 5. Is the Impact PowerSync 16-80 Transceiver compatible with the pocket-wizard Plus III ? I have several Pocket wizards and would like to expand with the impact poer synk 16-80

A: No. The different manufacturers use different frequency ranges. Sometimes these frequency ranges are different even among models of the same manufacturer. You must always check if different models are compatible.

Q: 6. is this compatible with Impact PowerSync16 DC Receiver?

A: Yes, this works perfectly and fast

Q: 7. Good day, will it be synchronized if I put it on Nikon D850 with Godox Professional Studio Flash?

A: It would be synchronized if you buy 2 transceivers - with the included PC cable

Q: 8. it will work with my sonya6000 Impact PowerSync16-80 Transceiver?

A: Yes it will. That's the setup I use. You will just need a 2.5mm to 3.5mm headphone adapter as well because the trigger cable has a 2.5mm and the transceiver has a 3.5mm on the output port.

Q: 9. Will these work on a sony A7 II and a YN560-II speedlite?

A: Yes. I have both and it works with both.

Q: 10. There is no patent issue with Pocket Wizard?

A: None, I love it. Can't wait to use it.

I needed a wireless option to use in my photography business. I use speed lights on location but strobes in the studio. I wanted something that I could use with both types of lights. After much research I found these and the price couldn't be beat. I purchased the two transceiver set that also included the cord to trigger a Canon camera. They were easy to set up and to use. The only issue I have had is sometimes they won't fire my flash. When this happens changing the channel always does the trick. They come with a nice case that will hold the transceiver, cables and bracket. The jacket is a nice addition as it will allow you to attach the transceiver to the light stand. I use this with my Canon 600EX-RT speed lights, Alien Bees, White Lighting and Westcott lights. It works reliably with them all.

I was very surprised at the performance of these Transceivers. I used them for the first time at a college graduation, which was a whole day engagement, and they did not let me down. The power consumption on these units is absolutely stunning. I did another graduation and did not have to change batteries in these units. These transceivers are great.

Before to order a couple of these transceiver, I had serious doubts because I wasn't able to find some reviews or unboxig. Still, the price it's a really great deal if you compare with some other brands like the newest PocketWizard. I've been use them now for two months and they work great, they never loose the frequency and it's really easy to set up different channels for multiple task like remote shooting. I've been working with cheap flashes like the Yongnuo 460-II until some respectful Impact lights and in both occasions, the PowerSync 16-18 had a great performance. Before, I was working with a super cheap Youngnuo transceivers and they often lost the signal between them, that was annoying specially if you only have one chance to catch the moment, like in weddings or sports, but the PowerSync16-80 never lose the radio signal even if you work in areas with different radio devices.
