An advanced optical design, which uses a series of aspherical and ED elements, pairs with both ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coatings to produce sharp and clear image quality with high contrast and accurate color rendering to benefit working in various lighting conditions.

The impressive zoom reach is also benefitted by Vibration Reduction image stabilization, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to 5 stops for sharper handheld shooting. A stepping motor provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override to suit both stills and video applications. Also, a programmable control ring can be set for intuitive adjustment over a variety of camera and exposure settings.

All-in-one zoom covers wide-angle to telephoto fields of view and is designed for FX-format Z-mount mirrorless cameras, however, can also be used with DX cameras where it will provide a 36-300mm equivalent focal length range.

Two aspherical elements and one aspherical ED element is used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.

Two extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to produce greater clarity and color rendering.

ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coats are used to prevent ghosting, reflections, and flare in order to realize improved contrast and clarity when working in strong lighting and backlit conditions. The Nano Crystal Coat controls incidental light from a diagonal direction while the ARNEO Coat controls incidental light from a vertical direction. A Super Integrated Coating is also featured on multiple elements to help ensure consistently accurate colors.

Stepping motor delivers impressively smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also possible and an internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Vibration Reduction image stabilization minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to 5 stops for sharper handheld shooting.

Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus, but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.

Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel benefits the lens' use in inclement conditions.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Weight

A: This lens weighs 1.25 lb / 570 g.

Q: 2. If this lens has an aperture range of f4 to f36 how can I choose f11 for depth of field if i need greater depth ?

A: You will need to change the aperture on the camera. Please see this instruction manual from Nikon as it shows how to change the aperture. https://onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/z7II_z6II/en/06_shooting_controls_01.html#aperture-priority_auto

Q: 3. Has anyone determined the aperture/light reduction as one zooms to the 200mm telephoto fl? Where does the light falloff begin to drop as a function of the zoom focal length(s)?

A: The aperture will continue to get smaller as you zoom in until it reaches its F/6.3 size.

Q: 4. I want to buy this lens to use it exclusively for video on a z6. How good is the autofocus of this lens in video mode?

A: The Nikon Z-mount lenses work brilliantly in photo and video mode on the Z-series cameras. The autofocus performance in this case will mostly depend on the capabilities on the camera in question, with the Mk II versions of the Z6/7 performing better than the original generation of Nikon mirrorless cameras.

Q: 5. How will this lens compare with an equivalent F lens on Z6 using the FTZ adapter?

A: The Z lenses have a new updated design and they are slightly sharper than their equivalent Nikon F mount lenses. Also Nikon does not have a lens with this exact focal length in F mount. They have the 28-300 that is not as wide, but has a longer focal length. It is heavier at 800 grams. This lens weighs 570 grams.

Q: 6. Would this lens work with the Zfc, or is it too big?

A: Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR Lens is work on a Zfc but since this lens is made for full-frame cameras, it will be a 36-300 mm (35 mm equivalent) lens. The lens has Dimensions (ø x L) 3.01 x 4.49".

Q: 7. What is the minimum focus distance at 200mm?

A: At 200mm the minimum focus distance is 2.3 ft.

Q: 8. Is this one of those "extend to use" lenses that Nikon is making now or will it shoot at its most compact length?

A: Hi Richard! It is not an "extend to use" lens. It will be ready to shoot as soon as you turn the camera on.

Q: 9. Once I have this Z 24-200 mm lense, do i still need my original 24 -70 mm lens or can i sell it online?

A: The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR Lens has a good zoom range but the max aperture is f/4 at the wide end of the lens and f/6.3 at the telephoto end of the lens. The max aperture of the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S Lens is f/2.8, so this lens is much better in low light. For that reason it might be a good idea to keep both lenses.

Q: 10. How come the lens doesn't say vr on the lens anywhere

A: The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR Lens has the letters VR printed on the front of the lens. It can be seen in the 360 degree view in the product images.

I really enjoyed this lens when I owned it. It was the only lens I took to the Sturgis Rally 2022, and it did not let me down. Thousand photos and all were perfect; spot on perfect sharp, contrast, very solid color and all in instant sharp focus. I recommend this 24-200 one hundred percent. I will replace the lens right away.

Was using 28-300 and Z adapter. This is sharper, much lighter, smaller, and has a wider field of view. Don't really miss the 300 because you can easily crop to 300 from the 24-200 and still have better image quality than the 28-300. Nikon has a winner!

There were several other online retailers that offered the Nikkor lens that I needed; however, I chose to purchase it from B&H because I trust them. I have not been disappointed.
