I shoot with a D300 and D800. I bought the Nikon battery grip for the D300 but for some reason (money) bought a Meike battery grip instead of the Nikon for my D800. Well, I learned my lesson and bought the Nikon MB-D12 battery grip and trashed the Meike. At almost $$ it is ridiculously expensive but I knew it would fit properly and feel solid. The third party grip always felt like it was about to fall off and locking wheel didn't always engage the attaching stud that connected it to the base of the camera.

I do architectural photography professionally, and I bought this for the longer shoot days, and to make the portrait shots easier. I've had this for a couple of weeks now, with a EN-EL15 battery inserted. The best thing about this is that it's built like the rest of the pro gear from Nikon. My gears gets bumped around a lot, and the grip seems to be as durable as the D800E that it's attached to. Controls are firm and tactile, and work as expected. The tripod screw connection to the body is also very secure - no jiggling while in motion. My only gripes are that it's more expensive than previous iterations, and that it's a bit on the heavier end. Then again, I take those to be the price to pay for better build quality.

Since I got my D800 over a year ago, I've wanted to get the batteray pack. I have one on my D7000 and was quite pleased. The MB-D12 gives you more battery options particularly when you are in remote areas with spotty recharge capability. Further, it gives better balance to the camera with a long lens attached plus the camera feels great in your hands. It is expensive -- the only drawback.

Really great, you can run the camera off a 2nd rechargeable or swap the AA battery tray an run it off them.

This is the second MB-12 I own. Costs more than the no name, but it fits like a glove and has good balance to it. Spendy, but I think that it's worth the extra money. I have one on the D300. not a problem for two years. I put the second one on the D800. So far so good.

I use a Really Right L Plate and it fits the battery pack perfect. The battery pack gives me extra stability in focus on the D 800E. Great product.

I bought this grip to extend the battery life on my D800. Does the job well, comes with a tray for 8xAA batteries as well. For $$, you should expect nothing less! There is slight play between the body and the grip, but I've been told that is normal with a battery grip (since its only attached by a tripod screw).

I tried other brand grips and had trouble with all of them. Finally order the Nikon and it works great. One thing to remember if using knock off batteries, the camera will show that the battery is dead and unit will not work. You must us the Nikon batteries. They have the chip in them so the grip can talk to the camera.

I got my D12 after I tried a third party battery grip that stopped working within a few minutes of attaching it to my D800. Trying to be cheap and save a dollar actually cost me more Anyway, this grip works as it should plus I have the option to use D4 batteries with the right tray for additional power. Thank you Nikon!!!
