Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens come with a case like the FE 55 1.8 Sonnar ?Can this lense be used as a portraiture lense also ?

A: It does not look as though the Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro Lens comes with a lens case. You could use it for a portrait lens as well as a macro lens, yes. Though, if you are shooting full frame, Id likely look at something a bit more telephoto, but a 50mm lens is still useable for portraits.

Q: 2. What effect on performance would using this on an R5 w/ EF adaptor have, given that it will be further from the sensor?

A: The Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8L Macro Tilt-Shift Lens will work perfectly on the Canon R5 with the adapter. There won't be any effect in the performance.

Q: 3. Can I turn off auto focus and use only manual focus on this lens?

A: The Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro Lens has an AF/ MF switch. Set the switch to MF for manual focus.

Q: 4. My lens squeals high pitch noise when focusing. Is anybody experiencing that issue?

A: Hi Pavel, the lens might need to be looked at by a technician. Please set up service via this link : https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/service?language=en_US

Q: 5. Hello, With the correct set up ring, will this lens and an ES-1 Copy adapter allow me to digitize slides on my a7iii?

A: While this FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro Lens along with a step up ring and the Nikon ES-1 could work, it has been tested to confirm to our knowledge. The results may vary.

Q: 6. Has anyone every used this lens with extension tubes as a "long macro" ? I wonder how much extension is needed to achieve 1:1 magnification?

A: You can use extension tubes with this lens for close focus you can stack the extension tubes

Q: 7. Does this lens work right wit extension tubes?

A: From our experience, the Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro lens works as expected with most third-party extension tubes. Depending on the firmware + hardware combination, several base functions might have their speed and reliability affected.

Q: 8. Got this and the macro is fine but it takes 4 - 6 SECONDS TO FOCUS on regular stills mode!!! This is even without altering the composition from one shot to the next, center focus, tripod. On video it takes 2 seconds for focus and the thing is noisy as a garbage truck. Anyone else have this problem or do I need to return this dog back to the pound?

A: Yes. Same problem. The lens hunts for focus even when i'm not shooting. Super slow to obtain focus. I bought it for the macro, but there is terrible pin cushioning there too. Send it back.

Q: 9. Is this lens sharper than the older Canon TS-E 90mm Tilt Shift Lens?

A: Yes, I've used both and the new version is much sharper.

Q: 10. I have a question about the manual focus of this lens. Does the manual focus ring have real, physical, hard stops at the close end and the far end of the focus throw? Or, when I turn the focus dial all the way to infinity, will the Dial keep moving if I push past infinity, despite focus of course stopping at infinity? This is a very important detail that I must now to see if it will work with my edelkrone motorized focus which requires physical hard stops. Thank you!

A: The focus ring on the TS-E 90mm f/2.8L Macro Tilt-Shift Lens has hard stops.
