I have used a silver colour marker to do that.Before I start rotating the knob , I note the number which is at 12-o-clock position and then start rotating it by half a turn or full turn based on the need. It may not be very precise but is good enough for me. The minimum you can go is 1/6th of a turn. I have not calibrated how much linear movement it gives .
