My first experience with B+W XS-Pro filters came with the recent purchase of two new Canon “L” series lenses. Out of curiosity, I decided to directly compare the new UV-Haze filters with existing stock of older Calumet, Hoya and Tiffen UV-Haze filters across my current complement of prime and zoom lenses, excepting a few lenses having front elements larger than the new B+W filters or unable to accommodate front filters. Several advantages of the B+W XS-Pro filters quickly emerged: improved overall contrast, particularly evident with zooms and short to long telephoto primes; noticeably better flare reduction with all lenses; some reduction in peripheral color fringing with zooms and wide primes; elimination or reduction of corner shading with wide primes and zooms (XS-Pro filters have a low profile ring). In addition, the .010 magenta bias built into XS-Pro filters confers a very subtle “cool warmth” cast that tends to enliven flesh tones as well as counteract shadow coldness sometimes transmitted by neutral UV-Haze filter glass (this bias might also partly explain the improved contrast I found in my testing). Based on these findings with my lenses, I’ll be replacing all of my older UV-Haze filters with B+W XS-Pro series filter glass. 5

I am glad I took the time to read reviews on various manufacturer's of filters. It appears that some manufacturer's have poor design and/or quality control. The two filters I purchased from B&W have excellent reviews and arrived in top condition. 5

Completely invisible in use as a protective filter should be. Cleans easily. Thin ring works fine with the wide lens on my Panasonic UX180 camcorder, but it still has a front thread for additional accessories, unlike other "slim" filters. Brass ring shouldn't seize up as aluminum sometimes can. 5
