Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a Canon Rebel T6s will the Sigma 150 - 600 contemporary auto focus work shooting wildlife ? And how about with a the 1.4 telecoverter ?

A: I have a Canon EOS 70D, but I believe this lens will work with any Canon camera that accepts EF lenses. Autofocus works well, especially set at AI Servo for wildlife. The back of the lens is set deep to accept a teleconverter, but manual focus only. I have a 2.0 teleconverter.

Q: 2. Will this Sigma 150-600mm ever be compatible for the new Black Magic camera? Also will this fit the Canon EOS Rebel T5?

A: Yes, it will fit the Rebel T5.

Q: 3. What is the Sigma dock several reviewers have mentioned?

A: Trying to correct several errors in my answer below. The dock plugs into a USB port, not sub as stated below. 3rd sentence should read You can also set focus/speed priority for autofocus and you can also change some parameters for the OS......If you have a Canon DSLR that has Micro Focus Adjustment you do not need the dock to make focus adjustments. MFA just as you would a Canon lens. Changing the OS to Dymanic makes a big difference in the movement you see in the viewfinder and changing the AF to Quick Focus priority also makes a difference. To me, it is well worth having even thoug I did not purchase it originally.

Q: 4. will this lens work for Canon Eos Rebel T7i?

A: There is a Canon version of the lens https://bhpho.to/2JmozFv that will work.

Q: 5. Will this lens perform in low light? I shoot events an people who could be speaking in a low light auditorium.

A: It only can be considered a low light lens if your camera can go high ISO without creating unacceptable noise. I have used it at times in low light but at high ISO up to 3200 when shooting birds at dusk.

Q: 6. How does this attach to the collar/ bracket that came with the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary model? Do you need any other parts/accessories to make this part work in a standard arca gimbal? Is it possible to get more/ better photos to see this from various angles and how attachments and thread holes are laid out? I like using a black rapid strap as I move about and getting places with my tripod before setting up my lens on a gimbal. Having better photos would give me more confidence in making this purchase. Thanks.

A: This foot is not for the contemporary lens, only for the sports version. The sports version has a removable foot that separates from the collar.

Q: 7. Is the firmware updated or I need the sigma dock rightaway?

A: I purchased the lens for my wife in late August 2016. It has never been updated and the version shows 1.02. I checked for updates and found 1.03 available.

Q: 8. Is the Sigma 150-600 plus 1.4x teleconverter compatible with BACKBUTTON Focus on Canon 7D?

A: With the 1.4 tele convertor on, it makes the lense an F8 at the long end. The camera may or may not focus depending on the ligth available (if it does, it will be with the center focus point only). this has nothing to do with back-button focus, but all to do with how the camerea needs at least 5.6 to focus at all points.

Q: 9. I bought this lens to use with my Nikon D5300 will be traveling to Alaska soon hoping to take pictures of wildlife, glaciers, etc. Has anyone used this lens with a Nikon D5300 ? Thanks

A: We have shot the migrating eagles, snow geese, tundra swans, baby geese, nesting blue herons and various other birds with this lens on a D5300 and D5200 with no problems. We use both hand held (shutter speed of 1/1000 or better) with no problems and on a tripod with superb results.

Q: 10. Does this lens offer full time manual focus?

A: Yes. A switch on the side allows the use of manual focusing via the ring or full auto. Another switch is for auto focus from 2.8 - 10m, 10m to infinity or full auto (2.8 - infinity)

Build Quality on this lens seems robust, considering this is the less expensive of Sigmas two 150-600s.  It is heavy, but thats to be expected for a lens of this size.

Not the fastest lens at f/5, but with good light, it performs well.  Optically, its very sharp and contrasty.  The VR works well and the autofocus is quick and accurate, especially with bright light.

A few reviewers have complained about the tripod collar; I dont find this to be the case, at all.  It is very solid and locks and unlocks easily.

This is a lot of lens for the money.

I have owned the lens for a couple of weeks. I had the chance to shoot some local birds. This lens is sharp and is excellent in focusing. Last night I heard a bird in a tree at dusk. Do to the low light I increased the ISO on my 7D MII on 1,000 and took a few shots. The shutter speed was only 1/10 and I was zoomed to 500mm. Amazingly the shot was usable and decent!! I was stunned. Great purchase - should have bought it sooner.

I have been using this lens for the past year. Its been my go to lens for wildlife & birding. I am so happy I bought this lens and its never disappointed me. Ok.... you heard this from others but you can see the results here as I added some shots from this weekends shoot. I used to use my EF  28-300L lens...… its now mothballed. Cant argue with shots like these!

I really like this lens. Ive snapped some bird photos Im really happy with. I considered the Sports version of this lens but the extra weight turned me off since I have some nerve damage in my right arm. Heck, the Contemporary version of this lens is heavy enough! I was always a Canon lens guy but I needed the extra reach without taking a hit to the wallet. Canon makes great lenses but like Apple, they know what price they can ask for their products. The image stabilizers really work, although they may hunt while I have the shutter button depressed halfway. The bokeh is amazing when I use my Canon 80D on the Sports, AV or TV setting. As to be expected, the best focal point is dead center with a little bit of fringe on the outer layers when the lens is pushed to the 600mm mark. Still, not nearly as bad as I would have thought at this price point. I get a lot of comments on this lens from fellow photographers. This is a big step up from my Canon 70-200 f/4 usm. At the moment I cant think of anything I dont like about this lens. Very happy with the lens and the service at B&H. I would buy Sigma lenses again.

An affordable lens and it produces sharp photos, especially for birding.  I highly recommend it, but take note it is a heavy lens.

It is excellent lens, supersharp, for me it is a little heavy but to be 600mm it is light, I made some adjustments with the usb dock ud-01 and the approach is super fast, I am currently a photographer of birds and wildlife. 100% recommended and staff of B & H is A +
