Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Transmitters appear to be exclusively for lavalier mics. What are the options for use with boomed mics or existing production audio mics like Sennheiser MKH series that require phantom power?

A: The Sennheiser AVX system has not come out with a plug-on transmitter yet. If you need one that can supply phantom power, the Sony UWP-D system can supply the 48v. Sennheiser EW100 series only will work with dynamic mics. However, their EW 300 series will supply phantom power.

Q: 2. Does this kit come with the battery packs?... one pack for each unit? -Thanks!

A: It comes with 1 battery for each transmitter/receiver. Extra transmitter batteries are part # SEBA30 and receiver batteries are part # SEBA20.

Q: 3. I often use my EW100 kit to transmit an audio feed from a sound console. Does the AVX platform provide for such an application?

A: Yes, you can. Just like the EW, you would need to use the CL-2 cable to connect an output from the mixer to the transmitter.

Q: 4. Does this product need a separate charging base for batteries on transmitter and mic? How long do batteries last?

A: The Sennheiser AVX-Combo SET Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Microphone System includes the NT 5-10U USB power supply/charger and a USB cable for recharging the BA 10 Accupack battery in the handheld transmitter, the BA 20 Accupack battery in the receiver, or the BA 30 Accupack battery in the bodypack transmitter. As an option, you can separately purchase the Sennheiser CHG 2 2-Bay Tabletop Charger (B&H # SE506219), which has universal charging slots for either bodypack or handheld transmitters with the batteries inside, and can also charge the BA10 and BA30 batteries without the transmitters.

Q: 5. Is there any (easy) way to convert the EKP XLR Receiver output line into a headphones output? NOT THROUGH A CAMERA OR ANOTHER DEVICE. Just with an adapter o cable? Thanks!

A: Unfortunately not. The output level on the Sennheiser EKP receiver is fixed at mic level. Additionally, there is no way to monitor audio on this system unless one is doing it thru a mixer or a headphone output on the input device.

Q: 6. i just got my AVX system, every time i turn it on i have to pair them is this normal?on my older sennheiser and sony system i just pair them once and it's good til i have to change channels.

A: The AVX system is digital, and it is recommended to pair the transmitter and receiver whenever you are in a new environment, but they should stay paired, even when turned off and back on again. You may want to check with Sennheiser to see if there is a technical issue with your particular wireless system.

Q: 7. Do the receivers rotate? I have a Canon XA30 I'm looking to use with two mics at the same time, and the two mic inputs are side by side. How will two receivers hook up at the same time?

A: The Sennheiser AVX receivers do rotate on the XLR jack almost a full rotation. You can easily connect both receivers to the mic inputs on the XA30 or similar camera.

Q: 8. Is this set compatible with Roland BA330 PA system?

A: Yes

Q: 9. If I want 4 lavs across two cameras, will buying these work or will I get some feedback?

A: The Sennheiser AVX series wireless microphone systems are single-channel so only one transmitter can be used with each receiver. The Sennheiser AVX 2-Person Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System with Case Kit will allow you to mic two people and both receivers can be connected to the same camera. In order to mic four people at the same time using the AVX systems, you will need to have four individual AVX systems (or two of the AVX 2-Person Kits). So you can use two of the AVX 2-Person Kits with your two cameras. Up to eight of the AVX systems can be used simultaneously within a 98-foot range. Interference and feedback would not be a problem.

Q: 10. How would you plug in the transmitter into a PA system Mixer? I'm thinking all I'd need is a 3.5mm male-to-3 pin XLR (male or female) short cable...with the 3.5 end plugged into the transmitter, and the the XLR end plugged into an XLR "out" on the board???

A: The AVX transmitter only excepts a mic level signal, so you would have to add a PSC ALMP Line to Mic Level Pad In-Line Barrel Adapter, B&H # PSALMP, along with a cable which you correctly mentioned. The Remote Audio 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm TRS Locking Adapter Cable for Sennheiser Transmitter (2'), B&H # RECASEK100L would be a good choice .
