A: Yes, the Polsen MVS-5 can be used with adapters to make it compatible for use with a smartphone. The adapter needed depends on the type of phone and its connector. The Rode SC4 (B&H # ROSC4) or Saramonic SR-UC201 (B&H # SASRUC201) will convert the mic's 3.5mm TRS plug to 3.5mm TRRS, which is a standard connector for many mobile devices. Either adapter will enable connection to a phone with a 3.5mm TRRS input. Additional adapters can then be attached onto the TRRS adapter. If you have an iPhone, attach an Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APLAADAP). Q: 6. I'm interested in purchasing the 8 Octa softbox to use with my Nikon SB-700 flash. Does the softbox have any sort of frame inside that keeps its shape or does it collapse into itself? Does it diminish the power level of the flash a lot?

A: This 8 octal soft box does not have any internal support and this causes it to sag a bit since the only thing supporting it is the velcro that closes the strap around the back collar where the soft box attaches to the flat. This could be fixed by adding some velcro to the softball and flash to provide some additional support. I have not tried to do this. You can expect to loose about 2 stops of light to the box, which is about normal since you are diffusing the light by bouncing it around the inside of the soft box. Having made these comments, this soft box does provide a very nice smooth (not harsh) light and creates a beautiful round catchlight in the subjects eyes.

A: You may be able to use the Auray WSW-VMS Custom Windbuster (B&H # AUWSWVMS). The dimensions of the MVS-5 are fairly close to those of the Senal SCS-98 and Polsen VM-180M shotgun mics so it may work. Please note that we have not tested the WSW-VMS with the MVS-5 to be able to confirm compatibility.
