Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When the description mentions shift it puts (APS-C) after it. Can you also use the shift on a full-frame camera, or is the image circle too small?

A: I havent had the opportunity to try the shift on my D800, but my understanding is that it will significantly vignette.

Q: 2. Would the lens shift mode work better when using an A7Rii camera if the the camera were set to crop frame (aps-c) mode? Am I also correct to assume that I would not need to be as close to the subject?

A: You may use the APS-C crop mode while using the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Sony E, but as this is a full-frame lens designed for full-frame sensors, the lens will not work better when set to APS-C mode; the lens will work identical as when using the full sensor, but in APS-C mode, you would simply not get as wide as a view and you would have a smaller maximum resolution due to the smaller frame crop size. While you will still have 6mm, it may appear less as you would not be viewing the lens' full angle of view. Regardless on if the camera is set to full-frame or APS-C mode, the lens' minimum focus distance is 4.72 (12 cm). The distance you are from the subject would simply change the perspective of your view of the subject slightly.

Q: 3. Is there any downside or degradation in quality if you use this lens on a Canon mirrorless with the EF adapter?

A: An adapter just helps you to mount the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Canon EF BH #VE1540C lens on the camera and doesn't have a glass on it. Hence the quality remains same. This is a manual focus lens.

Q: 4. Which lens mount can it fit on techart pro? I looking to get this lens to fix onto techart then to Sony A7.

A: Nikon has the longest flange focal distance so this means it is generally the easiest to adapt. I use both Sony and Nikon so I purchased the Nikon mount with this lens. I use it with my a7rii with a very simple mechanical adapter from ebay and it works great. Sorry I don't have specific info regarding the Techart Pro, but I thought this suggestion might be helpful in your search for information.

Q: 5. Does the lens come with a lens shade? The images on B&H do not show one but the same lens on Amazon show a lens shade.

A: In the Box Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Nikon F Lens Hood Front & Rear Lens Caps Limited 3-Year Warranty

Q: 6. How is this lens in terms of COMA aberation? Has anyone tried this lens for night landscapes, where a close in foreground object is combined with a sky full of stars. Are the stars sharp to the edge, or do they start to look like birds in flight?

A: I'm sorry but I haven't done the type of photography that the asker is interested in.

Q: 7. With its 12cm minimum focusing distance, how can it achieve 1:1 magnification with 15mm focal length?

A: The lens can focus as close as 4.72 (12cm) from the object. With that minimum focus distance that lens can produce a 1:1 magnification ratio.

Q: 8. Can you mount a canon macro twinlite flash on the lens?

A: Yes, with the Canon macrolite adapter and a step up ring, you attach the twin lite. You may get vignetting but can be cropped out in post. Click the links below to view the parts needed; https://bhpho.to/2BpDqgT https://bhpho.to/2BTRJKu

Q: 9. When the EF version is used with an adapter to a different mount, does it still allow to use 1:1 magnification?

A: Yes, the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Canon EF retains 1:1 magnification when adapted to another mount.

Q: 10. I just opened the box and the focus ring won't budge. What am I doing wrong or is it diffective?

A: Hi Coreen! Be aware that this lens is manual focus only and won't autofocus due to lack of lens-camera links and contacts, the same applies to the aperture settings, camera won't autoexpose or auto-adjust apertures, it's back to basics... Otherwise the focusing ring should turn when operated manually, if not, then the lens is deffective.
