Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How much weight will this side arm support?

A: I use it connected to a Gitzo tripod. With the arm fully extended, I can connect my Arca Swiss monoball head, Canon 5DII and a large lens with no problem. Hopefully this helps.

Q: 2. Are any extra accessories needed to attach a DSLR to this side arm?

A: You would want a tripod head to attach to this. If you have a tripod with a head, you can take it off the legs and attach to the arm, while the arm goes where the head was. Then you use the plate from the head for your DSLR. Example below.

Q: 3. Can this be used with Manfrotto 141RC and Nikon D5000?

A: Yes, the Manfrotto 131D Side Arm - for Tripods (Chrome) may be used with your listed equipment.

Q: 4. Does this arm allow me to attach another Manfrotto video head to it?

A: I would not do that. If you plan on using the Video head for any movement at all this is not your tool. I have this arm and use it for my medium format camera and it works well, but I do have to use some counter weights. It takes a while to get the whole thing in place but one you do it can get the job done pretty well..

Q: 5. Will this fit a Slik Sprint Pro II Tripod with SBH-100DQ Ball Head?

A: fits on my tripod. not sure what size thread your tripod will use but adapter-screws are available and they are cheap.

Q: 6. Assuming it's counterbalanced, what is the payload mass limit?

A: Unfortunately the max load capacity is not listed by Manfrotto but if i had to guess, I would say 10-15lbs.

Q: 7. Will the Manfrotto 131D lateral side arm work with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III?

A: It works well for my Canon 80D, but 5D is heavier by about 10 grams, so maybe you should be a little more careful how you mount it.

Q: 8. I'm wondering if a tripod set like the Manfrotto MK290XTC3-BHUS 290 Xtra (a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1175945-REG/manfrotto_mk290xtc3_bhus_290_xtra_carbon_ball.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1175945-REG/manfrotto_mk290xtc3_bhus_290_xtra_carbon_ball.html/a) would work with this side arm. Also is there anything else I'd need besides the tripod, ball head and side arm?

A: I use mine with a 190XPROB. It works just fine, although you need to keep the legs about 1/2 extended to keep there from being too much rotation since a ball head on the side arm has a lot more leverage than a camera sitting on top of the tripod. For my set up the only other thing I have besides ballhead and sidearm is a laptop table.

Q: 9. The specs say: '1/4"-20 on one side, 3/8" on other'. In the photos, it looks like one side has a 1/4"-3/8" adapter. Is the adapter included? (Can I attach two 3/8" heads out-of-the-box or do I need to purchase an adapter?)

A: One end of the Manfrotto 131D Lateral Side Arm for Tripods has a 3/8"-16 male thread, while the other end has a 1/4"-20 male thread. If you want to connect two ball heads, each which have a 3/8"-16 female socket on the base of the head, you may purchase one (1) of the Oben 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing, B&H # OB1039, for your usage needs. This will allow you to convert the smaller 1/4"-20 thread on the opposite end of the lateral side arm to the larger 3/8"-16 thread size used by your ball head.

Q: 10. Can the Manfrotto 131D Lateral Side Arm be mounted on a ball head?

A: Yes, but i would highly recommend attaching it directly to the tripod, much more stable.
