Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can i remove the wheels??

A: Not without permanently damaging the stand. But there is no need to do so as the wheels all have VERY stable locking mechanisms. Once you lock the wheels, the stand won't move. In fact, locking the wheels also locks the rotation of the caster, so it doesn't even shift from the connection of the caster to the leg. If you don't want wheels, you should get a C-stand instead.

Q: 2. When you open the boom horizontally Is the Boom Length 3.7' closed and 7.0' when the boom is fully opened up horizontally?

A: I did not measure it, but the boom definitely looks 3 feet+ closed and double its size when fully opened.

Q: 3. Will the Manfrotto 014-14 rapid adapter fit on the boom arm?

A: Yes you can put a rapid adapter on the stud of this stand.

Q: 4. Would this be adequate for a Westcott Rapid Box Duo 32 with 2 Canon 600 ex-rt speedlights? Overkill?

A: The A4041B would be adequate for a Westcott Rapid Box Duo 32 softbox with two Canon 600 EX RT flashes mounted inside of it.

Q: 5. What caster set (wheels) are available for this c-stand?

A: Kupo Runway Stand Base B&H # KUKS301012 MFR # KS301012

Q: 6. Can this be used as backdrop stand? If so, is there a compatible variable pole? Finally, will these hold more than one backdrop at a time? Thanks so much.

A: Some have used C-stands like this one to hold a single roll of seamless paper, particularly in the smaller 2ft or 4.5 ft widths while being secured with standard spring clamp. If your intention is to hold multiple background at one time, you may be better off getting a background support which offers an adjustable cross and which can hold different types of backgrounds. One such option is the Savage Multiple Polevault System (12.6' Width) B&H # SABGSMPV which can hold up to three backgrounds. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 7. Avenger boom wheels

A: A9000 wheels. https://bhpho.to/2NyMfb8

Q: 8. What are the measurements of the base when closed? Can they fit in a lighting bag?

A: A rough measurement around the three folded legs was 28 , about 10 between two legs and the folded height was just shy of 54 . As stated in a previous question/answer, I don't see packing this thing into a case. it's already a beast and adding the weight of a case would be a show stopper (for me). It's built like a tank so It'll handle some banging around. I've used this indoor and outdoor when I wanted a solid base and weight to counter wind. Just hope you're not carrying it far.

Q: 9. Hi B&H, What's the boom load at max extension? Thanks

A: Boom at minimum extension: 33 lb (15 kg) Stand at max extension: 22.05 lb (10 kg).

Q: 10. Is this stand strong enough to fly in an Astra 1x1 with softbox? Even at full extension?

A: This boom would not be strong enough to hold a Litepanels Astra 1 x 1 with a softbox. A better option would be the Avenger A4039CS 12.8' Steel Boom Stand 39 (Chrome-plated), BH # AVA4039CS https://bhpho.to/2Y72dSi

Simply put, this is a great combo stand. It holds my 22 beauty dish, Canon 580EXII, PW Plus II transceiver, and Opteka External Battery Pack with ease (all items on the boom). I also have used it with a Lasolite EZYBOX 24 softbox and held it all together with no load issues and/or problems. I've used it on-location, as well as in the studio. The large diameter footprint, sand bag counter balance, and good load weight on the boom (11 lbs.) is an added plus. Construction and build is great, in addition to the large size locking screw knobs throughout the stand. Lastly, it's easy to setup and breakdown with little effort; a quadruple plus!!! The only drawback (which in retrospect is a good thing) is the weight of the stand. Carrying it from location to location could be tiresome. However, it's good to know that it has a heavy foundation to support whatever light modifier and accessories you can throw at it. As with all booms, always bring extra sand bags for extra base support. Overall, an A+ product from this satisfied new user!!!

The Avenger version of the combi-boom is better built than its Manfrotto counterpart. This also makes it heavier and slightly longer, but also more stable, and I have found I can use it with smaller softboxes without using the counterweight if in a hurry and if I don't need to extend the boom by much. Another feature of this stand that I only realized after buying it is that it also makes it a lot easier to get your light sources low towards the floor without resorting to dedicated background stands etc. - just lower the boom and presto! The lazy leg makes this stand a perfect location stand - I don't know why this adjustable leg isn't more commonly found, I wish all my lighting stands had this feature. I will buy a second stand next time I'm placing an order with BH. The perfect location bag for these stands is the Lightware C6150 Stand Sack, one of the few bags that is long enough to accomodate it. The stand sack offers unusuably good value for a Lightware product.

I previously owned a manfrotto boom kit and wanted the flexibility the combi stand offers. This stand is exactly what I was looking for.

I had the slightly smaller version of this stand & it went missing while on assignment. So off I went to b&h and purchased this slightly beefier one. I use it to hang either a Kino Diva 400 or a panel light for video interviews.

This is a heavy, sturdy stand that will likely last for years. I wanted something incredibly well made since I'm hanging some expensive gear from that boom! I love that it can be used as a boom or a regular stand. The weight bag is also very well made. I use it with my 5 lb. monolight and small Photoflex softbox with absolutely no problem.

Excellent, sturdy boom/stand. Easily supports (with appropriate counterweight) monobloc + 22 in. beauty dish. Well worth the money. Don't skimp on cheaper alternatives, too much at stake.

I use this stand on my 22 beauty dish. It holds the weight on the boom without a hiccup; Strong, sturdy, and securely. I have also used my 24 EZYBOX Softbox on this stand with equal results as the beauty dish. It's a heavy-weighted stand; which is a good thing, too. Lastly, remember that sandbags are your friend for counter-weight. Overall I'm pleased with my purchase.

I am very pleased with this stand. I only wish that there was a knuckle or swivel connector at the end of the boom, so that the light fixture could be swiveled and adjusted to face every direction. This would reduce the amount of room required behind your subject when using the boom to support your rim light. Since BH was not aware of such a swivel being made by anyone, maybe this is an opportunity for a lighting company to develop a new product.

Heavy, sturdy, well-built monster! Like the others have said, you really need to crank on the clamp for the boom to stay but I had no trouble with it slipping. You really need an assistant for shooting outdoors but if this is for a studio... perfect!
