The black Isomax 2 All-Purpose Microphone, Standard Gain with LEMO 3-Pin Connector for Lectrosonics and Sennheiser SSM and SK 2000 Wireless Transmitters from Countryman features a frequency-independent capsule that delivers tight pattern control as an all-around instrument microphone. It can be used to capture audio in sound reinforcement applications for saxophone, violin, viola, cello, double bass, acoustic guitar, flute, piano, brass, and percussion instruments.

The Isomax 2 is built with exceptional gain before feedback and excellent rejection of the surrounding environment. It is lightweight, easy to use, and is designed to handle very-high sound pressure levels. It is supplied with a foam windscreen, basic clip, and carrying case. In addition, the 5' cable is permanently attached to the mic and terminates to a LEMO 3-pin connector for direct connection to Lectrosonics and Sennheiser SSM and SK 2000 wireless bodypack transmitters.

Inside or outside musical instruments, placed on or hung over stages, and hidden in sets for theater, motion pictures, and TV, the mic can also be used as an audience mic or stage floor mic.

The microphone is sleek, small, and lightweight and will not distract the instrumentalist or the public. It is easy to hang without scaffolding, which eliminates the risk of bulky equipment falling on performers.

Very-low distortion at high SPL levels encountered inside instruments. It offers an uncolored and clean sound with a superflat frequency response.

A microphone with a figure-8 (bidirectional) pickup pattern is sensitive to sound coming from the front and coming from the rear, but has a very-high rejection to sound coming from the sides. Great for mid/side and Blumlein stereo applications.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this microphone fit on a Rode blimp ?

A: Yes it will. This Rode blimp RYWKNTG will work with the Sennheiser MKH 416.

Q: 2. How much weight can this hold? Can it easily hold a medium format camera (Pentax 645z) with a larger, heavier lens (80-160mm zoom)?

A: The manufacture does not list the maximum load the rail can handle. It is pretty much a solid piece of metal so it can support a lot of weight. It is the head or other part you attach to the rail that is more of a concern for maximum load.

Q: 3. can the MKE 440 be used to improve recording input quality of a smart phone recorder?

A: Since stereo microphones are not supported by smartphones via their headphone jacks, this mic would not be recommended. There are several mics designed specifically for smartphone use. https://bhpho.to/2hSzRRK

Q: 4. Will this shotgun mic work outdoors for wildlife and birds chirping long distances away?

A: Shotgun mics by design are generally used to capture audio up to roughly 6 feet away. The closer, the better the audio. While sound outside of that can still be captured, it will not be as detailed due to proximity effect. In order to capture audio (example 50 feet away) you would need a parabolic dish such as this one JOJSPM . The shotgun mic is pointed toward the dish and that allows it to capture audio from further distances.

Q: 5. Can the clamp be rotated 90 degrees (for use with (tripod collar) lens plates?

A: No. You'd need to dove plate adapter for that.

Q: 6. can I record sound only, by connecting the MKE 440 to my iPhone?

A: Since the iPhone and similar smartphones only support a single channel (mono) mic input, using a stereo mic connected to the headset jack is not recommended and will not operate correctly. In addition an adapter is required for compatibility. Standard mics are not able to be directly connected. A solution would be a mono mic such as the Sennheiser MKE 400 along with the Rode SC4 adapter for connection. There are also several mics designed for smartphone use such as the Rode VideoMic Me.

Q: 7. Will this work on a Sony 70-200mm G master lens?

A: Yes. The lens foot has two different sized mounts. 1/4-20 and 3/8. Use them both. Install the bushing into the foot with slot out for removal. This should give you a solid connection. This plate is the same as our 2 1/2 inch lens plate and will work with any lenses that use our plate #2130.

Q: 8. Is this microphone acceptable by film/tv industry standards to be used indoors without on location sound treatment?

A: This mic is a professional shotgun microphone used regularly in film and video for dialog capture. The MKH-416 may give you some reflections off of the back of the mic in-doors, which could effect the sound quality. You may choose a small diaphragm boom mic for interior interviews, such as the Schoeps CMC641 Set Colette Series Supercardioid Microphone Set (Gray), BH #SCCMC641S, which will elevate that issue. As always, bring the mic in as close as possible to your subjects, and cover reflective surfaces, such wood or tile floors with a blanket or rug. This will improve your sound recordings.

Q: 9. Cheaper alternative?

A: The BP4073 Line and Gradient Condenser Microphone from Audio-Technica is well suited for capturing speech and audio in feature film recording, broadcast and theater sound reinforcement applications. The microphone measures just 9.17 in length, and weighs 3.5 oz making it ideal for long-term use on the ends of boompoles and handheld mounts. Its wide frequency response, Line + Gradient pick up pattern and low noise result in transparent audio reproduction. An 80 Hz hi-pass filter switch minimizes low-frequency noise and ambiance, while the 10 dB pad switch provides added headroom when capturing transient (peak) audio signals. The BP4073 is RoHS compliant, providing RF (radio-frequency) interference free operation. Designed for use in broadcasting, film/TV production and theater sound reinforcement applications Direct-coupled, balanced output ensures a clean signal even in high-output conditions Innovative acoustic design provides same directivity as mics up to 50% longer Switchable 80 Hz hi-pass filter & 10 dB pad Rugged housing made of lightweight structural-grade aluminum alloy RoHS-compliant - free from all substances specified in the EU directive on the reduction of hazardous substances (RoHS)

Q: 10. Messrs, is the Sennheiser MKE 440 Compact compatible with the Sony FDR-AX33 4K Ultra HD Handycam Camcorder?

A: It is possible to venture outside of the Sony microphone lineup provided you use a couple of adapters; #SOVCTCSM1 and # VECS20.
