The Tokina 50mm T1.5 Cinema Vista Prime Lens is an LPL-mount lens with focus scales marked in feet, providing an image circle that more than covers full-frame sensors and is designed to provide sharp images even when recording images at 8K resolution. It has a 50mm focal length and shares the same form factor, lens gear position, focus rotation, and front barrel diameter as the other Tokina Cinema Vista prime lenses, making on-set lens changes a fast and efficient operation. Its maximum T-stop of 1.5 is useful when shooting in low-light situations or when you want to capture that exceedingly shallow depth of field look.

The 9-bladed iris provides round out-of-focus highlights for a natural-looking bokeh. The lens barrel features approximately 300° of rotation from close focus to infinity; this gives you a high degree of precision when pulling focus. The lens is designed to minimize focus breathing, and it features geared manual focus and iris rings. Markings on both sides of the lens barrel make it readable from either side of the camera. The lens features an LPL mount, and the front is 114mm in diameter with a built-in 1/4"-20 support foot that helps support the lens with the aid of an optional 1/4"-20 rod-mounted lens support (not included).

The 50mm T1.5 LPL-mount prime lens is capable of focusing images on a sensor with full 8K-resolution and features a 46.7 mm image circle, which easily covers standard-sized full-frame sensors.

The use of a 9-blade iris produces a smooth round appearance to out-of-focus specular highlights. The iris also produces a pleasing bokeh, referring to natural-looking out-of-focus areas of the image. The iris is manual and features smooth movement without click stops for smooth exposure adjustments while recording.

The lens has markings on both sides of the barrel, making it easy to read focus and aperture settings from behind or either side of the camera.

The lens shares the same front lens diameters and gear positioning on the focus and iris rings as the other lenses in the series, making lens switching quick and convenient. Additionally, the focus ring features approximately 300º of smooth rotation to help facilitate consistently accurate focusing, especially when pulling focus during a shot.

Designed to minimize variations in the angle of view while focusing, a phenomenon known as focus breathing. This feature is extremely important while pulling focus, especially on static shots, where focus breathing is more noticeable.

The lens features threading on the front of the lens to accommodate 112mm screw-on filters. This feature allows the camera operator to add filters over the lens without taking up a filter stage in a matte box.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If you had to choose one cinema lense for a short film with the C100 Mark II, is this lense a good option?

A: No, this is an ultra-wide lens and if you are shooting an entire film with one prime lens, a 35mm or 50mm would be much better. The Canon 24-105 L series zoom works perfectly with the C100 and can provide image stabilization and auto-focus as well as lens distortion correction in one compact package.

Q: 2. will this lense fit on Sony A7sii?

A: Yes it will. This is an E-Mount lens, which is the mount on the A7SII. It also can cover a full fame sensor, which the A7SII has as well. It is a great choice for that camera.

Q: 3. Is there thread for screw on lens filters? What mm?

A: Yes, these are 114mm threads.

Q: 4. is it compatible with 70d?

A: The Samyang 50mm T1.5 VDSLR AS UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount is perfectly compatible with the 70D. Be aware this gives on a APS-C sensor camera a slightly telephoto perspective along with being manual aperture and focus only.

Q: 5. What's the difference between this one and Rokinon 50? Because the price is 150 off

A: Both this Samyang lens and the Rokinon 50mm T1.5 (B&H # RO5015TC) are made by Samyang Optics in Korea and are both the same exact lens. Rokinon is a private distributor of Samyang here in the US Market. Going with the lesser priced Samyang lens is a great choice.

Q: 6. What is the weather-proofing on this lens? Can this be used in rainy conditions?

A: It is nowhere as well weather proofed as the Canon L lenses for example. It is very well built, but I would avoid getting it wet if possible. At least, I wouldn't be game to get mine wet if I can avoid it.A few drops shouldn't be a problem though.

Q: 7. No image stabilzation?

A: You are correct, no image stabilization for the CN-E 14mm T3.1 L F Cinema Prime Lens (EF Mount). Virtually all Cinema lenses do not have image stabilization. Ironically, pro grade equipment generally lags way behind what consumer equipment can do. Mostly it is because there is no need for many of the consumer advances, or there are answers for the problem in say using a dolly, a Steadicam or simply a good camera operator. IS would be expensive to implement and at this time, I am sure the powers that be do not feel the need for it.

Q: 8. How does the focus work? Like is it still manual or will it work with Blackmagic's bluetooth app for pulling focus?

A: This is a cinema lens that only has manual focus. There is a focus ring, marked in feet, to manually adjust focus. This lens will not electronically pull focus.

Q: 9. How does this compare to the 50mm f 1.4 lens (SY50M-E) besides the unclicked aperture?

A: If you are doing video and particularly if you have a focus puller, you want this lens. Much needed features of a video lens besides the de-clicked aperture is the geared rings for a mechanical interface with manual or motorized controls plus horizontal focus and aperture scales for easy reading by the camera assistant. The 50mm f 1.4 lens (SY50M-E) is a still photo lens thus does not need these features.

Q: 10. Can lenses be changed over to other mounts?

A: There is no official manufacturer information regarding this. However, it is my opinion that the lenses can be converted. However, this should only be done by a qualified technician and not by a user in the field.
