Combining a versatile normal focal length with fast design, the Canon EF-mount Irix 45mm f/1.4 is a useful prime lens characterized by its manual focus operation and weather-sealed design. The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques. The optical design incorporates a series of specialized elements to reduce a variety of aberrations in order to produce sharp and color-accurate imagery.

Complementing the optical assets is a robust physical construction, dubbed Dragonfly, which incorporates extensive weather sealing to guard against dust and moisture. This manual focus lens also features a printed focus distance scale to benefit fast and accurate focusing, and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth bokeh quality.

Normal-length prime is compatible with full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 72mm equivalent focal length.

Impressive f/1.4 maximum aperture suits working in a variety of lighting conditions and also affords great control over depth of field for isolating subject matter using selective focus techniques.

One aspherical element and four high refractive index (HR) elements help to minimize spherical aberrations and distortion in order to achieve high sharpness and accurate rendering.

One extra-low dispersion element suppresses color fringing and chromatic aberrations for a high degree of color fidelity and clarity throughout the aperture range.

Manual focus design is benefitted by a positive focus lock mechanism to secure your focus position at any point to limit unwanted shifting of focus. Also, an internal focusing design maintains the overall length of the lens during operation.

Dragonfly finish incorporates weather sealing to guard against dust and moisture.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Integrated CPU enables camera-based aperture control along with focus confirmation.

Includes complimentary additional rear lens cap.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens work with a Canon R6 Mk II if you use the Canon EF-RF adapter?

A: The IRIX 21mm f/1.4 Dragonfly Lens for Canon EF is compatible with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera with the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. Keep in mind this is a manual lens.

Q: 2. will this lens work with the Canon 60D ?

A: It should. It's a full frame lens that should work fine with the Canon 60D. Make sure you get it in the Canon EF mount. Note that it's a Manual focus lens.

Q: 3. Stephen (or others), What is the effective working distance of this lens compared to the Nikon 105G? I can look up specs but would welcome actual user experience. Also, how solid is the tripod collar?

A: The Minimum Focus Distance from the sensor/film plane is13.58" / 34.5 cm and working distance from front element is approximately 8.25".

Q: 4. Is the IRIX MATTE BOX compatible with this IRIX 21mm PHOTO Lens?

A: Yes, the IRIX Cine Matte Box IQ can attach to the IRIX 21mm f/1.4 Dragonfly Lens for Canon EF.

Q: 5. Will this lens work on a Nikon D3300?

A: Yes, the IRIX 15mm f/2.4 Firefly Lens for Nikon F is compatible with the Nikon D3300.

Q: 6. Does this lens have an aperture ring that can be turned by hand?

A: No, the aperture is only controlled by the camera body there is no external ring to adjust.

Q: 7. For the Pentax mount version, will it work with a film Pentax camera like the ZX-5n which has Av and Tv settings or the fully manual K1000 SE? I understand that there is no aperture ring so I would not be able to select the aperture on a fully manual camera like the K1000 and the aperture would default to 22 which would be fine for my intended purpose (landscape photography with a large DoF mounted on a tripod). Was wanting this to use with a K-1 Mk II special for night sky astrophotography landscapes and also be able to use it with my old ZX-5n and a K1000 SE for daytime landscapes. I already have a 95mm night sky light pollution filter - which is why I would prefer this lens over the Roki 14mm 2.8 which won’t accept filters but does have an aperture ring and would likely work fine on my film camera.

A: It will mount to the older Pentax film cameras.

Q: 8. Judging from the pictures of this lens it does not have a DOF scale. Do I see that right?

A: The IRIX 45mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon EF does not have a depth of field scale.

Q: 9. Is this from China ?

A: Country of origin of the IRIX 15mm f/2.4 Firefly Lens for Canon EF is South Korea.

Q: 10. How do you change the aperture?

A: Through the body of the camera, just like any other digital camera. I'm assuming you have digital camera? A film camera is not compatible.

For YEARS using the 85mm 1.2 was a delight and a dread. It's not that sharp and it's design pushed it into novelty lens territory (think the canon dream 50mm).... But finally canon has nailed the sweet spot for a fast 85mm. This 1.4 version is sharp and steady with the IS function. 5 stars.

To find out my go-to portrait lens, one of the best ever manufactured, could not be repaired (well, it could be but Canon has abandoned it) was heartbreaking. It's been my primary lens for thousands of clients, so I was in a pickle.

I read the reviews, accepted reality and spent the money on the 1.4.

To be brief, it's a remarkable piece of engineering. Many will argue, but the bokeh on the 1.2 is so magical and honestly I would challenge anyone to look at images from both lenses and be able to distinguish which is which.

The focal speed is SO much faster, the IS is remarkable, rock solid sharpness at 1/15 of a second, for goodness sake. I primarily shoot headshots and theatre... and this will be my go-to from now on.

The romantic thing about the old cannonball (1.2) is a real thing but honestly, I don't feel like I've lost anything and in a way I'm glad I dropped it. The 1.4 is making my life easier. It's fantastic.

I highly recommend this terrific lens.

This lens is designed for portrait. With IS. I love the bokeh specially when you mount it to R5. I'm planning to buy Rf 85 version but the price is over a thousand more than this. This works for me.

This is a great portrait lens. Well made. The only thing I don't like is the shaking inside. It feels like it's broken. The performance is amazingly fast.

I love this lens. Took my daughters 9 mouth photos and my other daughters 1st hair cut. Two drastically different light conditions and got the desired results both times.
