Inside or outside musical instruments, placed on or hung over stages, and hidden in sets for theater, motion pictures, and TV, the mic can also be used as an audience mic or stage floor mic.

The microphone is sleek, small, and lightweight and will not distract the instrumentalist or the public. It is easy to hang without scaffolding, which eliminates the risk of bulky equipment falling on performers.

Very-low distortion at high SPL levels encountered inside instruments. It offers an uncolored and clean sound with a superflat frequency response.

A microphone with a figure-8 (bidirectional) pickup pattern is sensitive to sound coming from the front and coming from the rear, but has a very-high rejection to sound coming from the sides. Great for mid/side and Blumlein stereo applications.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between the NTG3 and NTG2?

A: I've used both and in my experience the NTG 3 is much hotter than the NTG 2. For me that is a good thing because it means you can get a stronger signal into the preamp at lower gain levels and thus avoid noise.

Q: 2. is it same image quality as c100 m2?same af performance?what is the battery life per charge?

A: The basic specs for the sensor of this camera and the C100 Mark II are Super35 and 9.84 MP. The ME200S-SH does have twice the high ISO performance at 204,800. The image quality should be comparable. The ME200S-SH does have Dual Pixel focus and we assume that it has the same outstanding AF performance as other Canon Dual Pixel Auto Focus equipped AF camera. You also focus using the one shot button on the camera or with the Canon RC-V100 Remote Controller. Lastly, this camera is meant really for permanent installations and thus does not have a battery internally or directly attached. It takes power from an external battery or an AC power adapter.

Q: 3. Does the 3.5mm audio input jack allow for a 3.5mm to dual XLR male adapter for 2 channels of audio?

A: Sorry, it is not possible because the output is mono. If you were to use a splitter cable only the audio of the left side will be audible. The other connector will have no sound, or a hissing noise.

Q: 4. If I get the boom pole that comes with the basic kit here, what is the recommended boom stand I should get to use with it?

A: You can use a basic model like the Auray Boom Pole Holder (B&H # AUBPH) or the BoomMate BPH Microphone Boom Pole Holder (B&H # BOBPH) together with a grip head such as the Impact 2.5" Diameter (B&H # IMKCP200).

Q: 5. Is this Mic compatible with the Canon G40?

A: Hello Trey, unfortunately, you need 48v phantom power to operate the NTG3. It doesn't appear the G40 provides that. I recommend the Rode NTG2 or 4+ as they have power in the microphone.

Q: 6. this mic won't fit into the cradle on my Sony FS7, it seems too slim for the holder, is there a solution for this, i thought the mic would be normal width?

A: I had the same problem, unfortunately the FS7 is designed for much thicker microphones. NTG3 is fairly thin microphone and requires some sort size converter to work with the FS7. You have two options, first you can order a part from sony: part number 317988201 , which is a rubber sleeve that goes over your microphone to increase its diameter. Sony sells these for $11 a piece. If you search any of the online stores you will find these going for as high as $40 for the same part, so directly from Sony is the way to go. However these are so thin you need two of them to get the right thickness, stack inside each other. A second option is to go to home depot and buy a 6 x6 rubber sheet, I think they sell them in the hardware aisle for $4.57. Cut two 2 x 6 strips and tightly roll them around the microphone. The result is about the same either way, microphone will now be secure in the FS7 holder.

Q: 7. Will this work to record audience responses in a 50 ft wide x 80 foot long building if it's mounted at one end?

A: The NTG3B is a great mic, but it is directional and has a narrow field for pickup. Additionally, it is not intended for use from that far of a distance. The mic should be positioned much closer to the audience and if you are recording the audience as a group, rather than recording individual people, a stereo mic would be a better choice since it has a wider field for pickup. Depending on the size of the audience and characteristics of the room, you may want to use more than one microphone positioned above them. It would be useful to have more information and to be able to communicate with you directly to best assist you in selecting an appropriate microphone or microphones for your application, as well as to be able to offer suggestions for where to place the mic(s).. Please contact our pro audio specialists by phone or through live chat on the website and we will be happy to help.

Q: 8. Can I plug the NTG3 directly into the canon 5d Mark iv?

A: No. The NTG3 requires phantom power which the camera does not provide so you will need to use an adapter that will power the mic. The Beachtek DXA-MICRO-PRO (B&H # BEDXAMICROP) will supply phantom power and also has a high quality preamp built in. Many recorders and mixers will also supply phantom power. Please feel free to contact us if you would like further assistance.

Q: 9. What is the signal to noise ratio on the Zoom H6?

A: Zoom has elected not to publish this specification. There are no documents available to support this spec. Please feel free to contact Zoom directly:Tel: (631) - 542-5270Email: info@a href= http://zoom-na.com target= _blank zoom-na.com/aWebsite: a href= http://www.zoom-na.com target= _blank http://www.zoom-na.com/a

Q: 10. Will the 3.5mm audio input power an xlr microphone with the correct adaptor? I would be interested in using a Rode NTG3 with this camera

A: It will not. While it is possible to adapt a Microphone with an XLR connection to a camera with a 3.5mm audio input, that microphone will need to be battery powered. If the battery requires phantom power, such as the NTG3, it will not be able to power the microphone. Phantom Power is not carried through 3.5mm connections.
