Highly versatile and well-suited for all traditional black and white printing needs, this box of 50 sheets of 11 x 14" Ilford MULTIGRADE RC Deluxe features a glossy 1M surface finish that is smooth and reflective in order to achieve noticeably deep black tones and a long apparent tonal scale. This Generation V paper features an updated emulsion with a more linear contrast profile that responds consistently and accurately to the full 00-5 range of Multigrade filters for fine tuning the look of prints. The paper also features a truly neutral base tint and responds especially well to different toning solutions for adjusting the final print color. The enhanced emulsion also affords deeper blacks along with enhanced mid-tone separation for greater flexibility when printing negatives of varying densities. Additionally, it is suitable for printing both conventional black and white negatives as well as chromogenic black and white negative films and the paper can be processed using standard black and white chemistry in either trays or using machine processors.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is the negative developed?

A: If you want to develop it yourself, search online for a PDF from Ilford called Processing Your First Black & White Film . You'll need a darkroom. Also developer, stop bath and fixer; all three chemicals can be purchased from B&H. A developing tank is handy, but not required. You can use glass baking trays to hold the chemicals and develop by hand (wear rubber gloves). But the room must be completely dark; the slightest light, even the dial on a wristwatch, will fog or ruin film. I started developing in a bathroom with thick black plastic covering the door. It worked well.If you want to print your negative, you can use the same stop bath and fixer, but buy paper developer. You can also use that to develop Harmon Direct Positive Paper, DPP, that should come with the Obscura kit. You can use a darkroom safe light, or red light, with paper. B&H also sells those. With a 4 x5 negative, you don't have to have an enlarger, just place the negative flat on the paper and expose it to light. This produces a contact print. Drop that in the developer and watch the magic.

Q: 2. what is the ISO of the film?

A: The manufacture does not have that information. It is camera speed line andhalftone film designed for rapid access processing. For camera:Line Exposure - scale 1:1 - f22Exposure Time - 8 sExp. Through Back - 20s

Q: 3. Should I expect this film to work well with an old Sears Tower 120 box camera? Just not sure this more modern color film is compatible with a 1950's or earlier box camera.

A: It should spool just fine into the Sears Box camera provided that it does use 120 format film.

Q: 4. Would this film work with an Ansco Shur Shot? The inside of the camera says For best result use Ansco 120 film . Also would it work in bright sunlight? (Southern California)

A: Yes it will fit. Get Portra 160 for bright sunlight.

Q: 5. How many exposures per one roll of the 120 Professional Portra 400 Color Negative Film? Shooting from a Hasselblad and no exposure count is specified in the box of film that I have.

A: With a Hasselblad you can get up to 12 exposures per roll of 120 film.

Q: 6. Does it take 4 x 5 Film Holders?

A: No it does not take 4X5 holders. So far I have used it to make paper negatives by cutting RC paper into 4X5 sheets. The camera separates into two halves with the paper layed into the bottom halve. When closed the paper is held securely in place. Now that Ilford is again making direct positive papers I plan to try them soon.

Q: 7. What type of developer do I use with this?

A: This film is designed for rapid access processing in ACD chemistry.

Q: 8. Can you use this film with a Kodak Junior Six-20? I was told 120 film can be used with it. And if so, how many exposures could I get per roll with this film using that camera? Thanks!

A: The Kodak Junior Six-20 unfortunately will not be able to use 120 format film. This particular camera uses 620 format film.

Q: 9. Can you use this film for a Holga 120N camera?

A: Yes, works great in a Holga; the 400 speed is better for a variety of light conditions. 100 speed needs a lot more sun especially in the Holga.

Q: 10. Why use a film holder with this camera?

A: There is no film holder needed for this camera, as you infer. The holders listed under accessories, are listed in error.
