Using this configuration, there is enough coil in the cable so that you can wrap it around part of your tripod or camera to avoid any unnecessary movement of the cable. You have two connection options. Connect the cable from your camera directly to the hand held trigger (and this is why the cable is so long) or connect the cable from your camera to the hot shoe attachment so that you may use your tirgger wirelessly/remotely.
