A: The larger hole in the Impact Floodlight Reflector - 12 (B&H # IMR12) is designed so you may place an umbrella shaft into the umbrella receptacle on the base of the Impact Porcelain Socket with Adjustable Umbrella Mount (500W) B&H # IMSPUM. As such, the hole should be on the bottom when used with an umbrella so it may align with the umbrella receptacle hole on the base of the Impact Porcelain Socket with Adjustable Umbrella Mount. This allows the light to be positioned in the center of the umbrella while still using the reflector to direct light to the umbrella and while controlling light spill. If you are not using an umbrella with the light kit, then the direction the hole is placed does not matter, though it is simply good habit to place the hole toward the bottom of the reflector.

A: This particular light source would be continuous tungsten light set up, so there would be no specifications for it regarding flash duration, recycle time or triggering method. The light source would simply turn on and off with an inline switch on the power cord. Those types of specifications are specific to strobe lighting.
