It is precision machined from a solid block of 6061-T6 aluminum and is compatible with any RRS system and most Arca-type systems. The plate features a dovetail design and anti-twist flanges to prevent twisting between the camera and the plate. A gimbal head does not have room to attach the camera body and is made to be used with long lenses which typically have a rotating collar with tripod foot. You attach a flat base plate (not this one) to the tripod foot on your lens and that's the plate that attaches to the gimbal head.
