While this 5-bay RAID array has a capacity of 80TB, please bear in mind that it's usable capacity may vary depending on the RAID mode selected. By default, the Mobius utilizes JBOD mode and the installed drives function as separate drives. Configure your array in RAID 0 to utilize striping for optimum speed but no redundancy. Or, utilize RAID 5 for speed and redundancy, ensuring your data can be recovered should one drive fail. Employ RAID 10 for optimum security without sacrificing speed, reserving one drive as a hot spare. Switching between the different modes is done using the integrated mode switches on the hardware controller.

  • USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1/3.2 Gen 1: up to 325 MB/s
  • FireWire 800/IEEE 1394b: up to 100 MB/s
  • eSATA: up to 325 MB/s

    • 80TB capacity (formatted capacity will vary depending on the RAID mode selected
    • JBOD (default), RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 3, RAID 5, RAID 10, and Combine (Span)
    • Configure the hardware RAID mode easily using mode switches

    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. HDD RPM and cache?

A: The hard drives are Seagate Enterprise ST6000NM0024. They are 7200RPM and have 128MB or cache.

Q: 2. Is it possible to install two 8TB drives in RAID 0 on this unit ? What's the max storage capacity on RAID 0 ? Thanks a lot in advance. Roberto.

A: I just installed 2 8tb seagate enterprise drives 2 days ago in a raid 1 setup. Only issue was connecting through USB instead of FireWire to get the drives into that configuration. Company walked me through it. They have great support. This is my second raid setup after buying the empty units. Very pleased.

Q: 3. In JBOD mode, are the drives hot-swappable? Can I eject one drive without ejecting or disturbing the others?

A: Yes in JBOD mode you can eject and replace a drive without disturbing the other drives.

Q: 4. Can this unit be switched from RAID 1 to RAID 5 if a 3rd(&4th &5th) drive is added to it later?

A: Sorry. I cannot answer your question. I loaded up all 5 drive bays and use it as a JBOD enclosure.

Q: 5. IS OYEN DIGITAL MOBIUS 80 TB compatible with 2019 M ACBOOK PRO ?

A: Hello, yes it is compatible with the 2019 MacBook Pro. You will need an adapter to connect directly to the Thunderbolt 3 port of the computer, such as BH #APMJ1M2AMA or BH #PEUSB33CA06. Thanks! Oyen Digital

Q: 6. Will this work plugging into any USB 3 port and show all drives? ie. Is a special USB 3 port multiplier card required?

A: Yes, but enterprise drives are recommended as consumer drives can inhibit speeds/performance.

Q: 7. The hard drive in my mid-2011 iMac is dead and I would prefer not cracking it open. Could I use this with a SSD and boot up from that, and use a HD in the other Bay for storage? There is no USB 3 port on the iMac so I am restricted to using firewire 800. I have heard conflicting reports as to whether that would be sufficient in order to use this with a bootable SSD. Thanks!

A: I have a 2011 iMac and the hdd died in it too. The internal sata cable that connects your hdd is about 6x faster than FireWire 800, which would probably make fw800 a nightmare for you to run off. Opening the iMac isn't as hard as it seems, just get the right tools, a clean table and check out some YouTube tutorials. Also make sure you get a new sata cable with the thermal sensor in it, otherwise your fans will run full speed all the time (I believe)..I also have the mobius and it's awesome for back up options.

Q: 8. Will JBOD work over FireWire 800?

A: Yes, the Oyen Digital Mobius 5-Bay FireWire 800/eSATA/USB 3.0 RAID Enclosure can be used in JBOD over FireWire 800.

Q: 9. How easy is it to swap out a drive? Are the drives attached to the trays with screws? Also, how loud is the fan?

A: The fan is very quiet. Its not very noticeable in a studio setting.

Q: 10. Can this device support two RAID 1 arrays, each being used on a different operating system(Mac & Win)

A: I use mine as JBOD. Has worked great for around a year so far. Very quiet. I use Mac.
