Delivering incredible performance at speeds up to 12 fps, the EOS R6 camera from Canon can capture the split-second details between a subject's movements. This is great for dynamic action photos of athletes, animals, or vehicles in motion. The selectable electronic (silent) shutter mode can capture images at up to 20 fps, which is useful for wildlife photographers and photojournalists.

Built around a revised 20MP full-frame CMOS sensor, the EOS R6 offers modest resolution to complement a more manageable workflow, especially for those working with the web and small print forms as their final output. This sensor is paired with a fine-tuned DIGIC X image processor, which enables impressive stills and video capabilities, along with sensitivity from ISO 100-102400, which can be expanded up to ISO 204800.

Beyond stills, the 20MP sensor also affords UHD 4K video recording at up to 60 fps, along with Full HD at 120 fps for slow-motion playback. Both formats can be recorded internally at 4:2:2 10-bit and both Canon Log and HDR-PQ are supported for greater control over color rendering, and to suit high dynamic range output. Additionally, Dual Pixel CMOS AF is supported for all recording settings and external recording, via the HDMI port, enables clean 4K output to an optional external recorded.

An updated Dual Pixel CMOS AF II features 1053 selectable focusing points, which cover approximately 100% of the image frame for wide and even coverage. This focusing system offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus. The system integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement. When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. When shooting video, the Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery.

Subject tracking has also been benefitted through the use of Deep Learning technology, which helps to gradually refine the focusing system's ability to quickly and accurately recognize both people and animal subjects. This technology also supports the more refined eye, face, and head detection functions, for both people and animals.

A first for EOS cameras, the R6 incorporates five-axis sensor-shift image stabilization that compensates for up to an impressive eight stops of camera shake for truly effective compensation to suit handheld shooting with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system also works in concert with lens-based optical image stabilization for both native RF lenses and adapted EF lenses.

  • High-resolution 3.69m-dot 0.5" electronic viewfinder provides a bright and detailed means for eye-level viewing and the quick 120 fps refresh rate offers natural motion rendering for a more realistic viewfinder experience.
  • Rear 3.0" 1.62m-dot LCD touchscreen features a vari-angle design that benefits front-facing recording, such as for vlogging needs, as well as working from high and low shooting angles.
  • Refined body design incorporates four distinct control dials across the body for intuitive tactile control and a joystick controller on the back of the camera offers fast and intuitive focus point selection and menu navigation.

  • Dual SD UHS-II memory card slots are featured for flexible storage needs.
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is available for fast file transferring to a mobile device and Bluetooth is present to provide constant device connection via the Canon Camera Connect app.
  • A 3.5mm headphone port and separate 3.5mm external microphone port are featured for improved audio monitoring and recording capabilities.

  • Comfortable and solid in the hand, the exterior of the EOS R6 is made of lightweight and rigid polycarbonate resin, while the internal structure is mainly magnesium alloy to enhance body durability while shielding the camera from electromagnetic radiation and heat. It also has a tempered front panel for internal rigidity.
  • Durable, weather-sealed body design is built to handle tough working conditions and inclement weather. Sealing materials are used in critical areas like the buttons, the terminal covers, the battery compartment, and the card slot cover. Precise design and construction help minimize accidental penetration of dust and moisture in the rest of the camera body.

Most Canon EOS EF-mount type lenses can be used on Canon EOS RF-mount camera bodies with the use of the required Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, which is separately available.

  • Fixes an issue where in rare instances, the camera may become inoperable when shooting in the Servo AF setting while operating the AF-ON button.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the L-series lens work with this camera?

A: They will but you need an adapter like this. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1433717-REG/canon_mount_adapter_ef_rf.html

Q: 2. I have a mark 111 and canon lenses. will. I be able to use the same lenses on this camera?

A: The Canon EOS R6 is a slightly different mount compared to the one that your EOS 5D Mark III took. In order to use your EF lenses, you'd at least need an adapter like the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R (https://bhpho.to/2wL8wZY) to convert them to RF mount.

Q: 3. Are you an authorized dealer for canon?

A: Yes we are!

Q: 4. Hello, does the R6 not have HSS? Your spec states a max of 1/250 sync speed, but I see on Canon's website spec it lists "High-speed sync" for the "Viewfinder Information"

A: Yes, the R6 offers HSS.

Q: 5. Why doesn't this R6 Kit come with the lens hood that comes with the RF 24-105 f/4 lens?

A: The lens hood for the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens is included with this kit.

Q: 6. Does the R6 include shooting modes, like the 6D, such as Sports, Landscape, Portrait, the simple shooting modes?

A: Yes, the scene options will be under the A+ mode. However, the camera will detect the scenes automatically and the icon for the detected scene will display on the Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Digital Camera monitor.

Q: 7. Is it okay EOS R6 screen has momentary black-outs while scrolling or finger-stretch enlarging? I went from 80D and hadn't experienced this characteristic. P. S. I Love that we can see setting-change while viewing real time.

A: The eye sensor is causing the momentary black outs. As mentioned in the previous reply, it is best to swipe side to side with your finger.

Q: 8. Are R6 video files mp4?

A: MP4 files can be selected in the video functions.

Q: 9. If you externally record on the r6 with a Ninja v, can you get around the 30 minute record limit and the overheating issue? I am thinking of using this as a wedding set up during ceremonies.

A: If you record out, you can record for longer than 30 minutes without any overheating.

Q: 10. Can you use Canon's (Speedlite 600EX II-RT or similar) flash red AF assist beam with this camera? Event photography, low light situation, R6's integrated AF beam is useless with 24-105mm lens ( with or without the hood on)!

I really wanted this camera for its fast focusing capabilities and it did not disappoint. Compared to my 5D IV bodies, it is much faster and can focus to the far edges in the viewfinder. The mechanical shutter is extremely quiet making it perfect for shooting in situations where you need to be unnoticed. I'm glad it has the two card slots which is a must when shooting professionally. While I wish it had a larger sensor than 20 meg, I am very satisfied with the files coming off the camera.

The 24-105 lens is light weight and I find the image quality very acceptable for a kit lens. The control ring is perfect for instant access to F Stops, ISO or other functions.

I'd give it six stars if I could. Great features, well laid out, easy to use. The eye focus (for animals and people) is amazing. The eye focus could pick up black eyes on a bird's black head without fail. With the control ring adapter, all of my EF and Sigma lenses work great. I can't wait to use if for low light event photography.

I went back and forth a lot between buying this versus R5. I am glad I bought R6. best all-around camera for the money, amazing performance. I am a serious hobby photographer since 2004 and went from 5D Mk III to this. The pixels are enough for any unless one wants to blow up pics so large or crop, where R5 would do better. I absolutely do not use the video portion of this.

Can only recommend it.

I have had the R6 for a few weeks now. The camera was a breeze to set up, and the autofocus has been on point! In the past few weeks I've shot a ton of photos and a few videos, and have never experienced any overheating or anything of the sort. I just upgraded from the Canon Rebel t6i, so the usability was quite similar. The ISO performance from what I've tested so far which is only up to 3200-6000 was still yielding a very clean image. I bought the Canon EF to RF adapter so I could still use all of my EF lenses, and I am happy to say that all the lenses have worked just as well. No problems with autofocus! Overall, a great upgrade, and I look forward to potentially getting a second R6 or R5 later this year :)

I have been using an R for the past 2 years. The R is great for portraits & land scraps, yea anything that does not move :) I used a 7DII but sold to pay for the R. I really liked to shoot AutoCross events but the R was not up to the job :(

Then the R6, I am happy again, only problem I have to wait till next spring for any AutoCross events or the next Spartan Race or Triathlon event.

Yea the R6 fills the bill and makes me a very happy camper.

I have a chance to test the R R5 and R6 ... I usually do weddings, and the R6 defiantly is the best option, files are not to big, all the functions you need and half price of R5.

I was debating between the Nikon Z6 II and Cannon R6. Did a lot of research and decided on the Cannon R6 for several reasons. Built in stability. Auto Focus capability. FPS capability. I also purchased a 24-70 F2.8 and 24-240 F4-6.3 with it. Excellent in low light with F2.8. Excellent in depth of feel. Excellent in capturing actions with kids playing sports. The 20 FPS in electronic mode is amazing. Overall, this camera has a ton of capability for me.

I looked at multiple cameras from Nikon, Sony, and Canon and I am really glad I chose the EOS R6 from Canon. It feels great in the hand, very well built. The image quality is great and the features are fantastic.

I am not a professional but will be using this for business/consulting purposes and I believe this will be a valuable tool for years to come.

I bought the kit lens, it looks good but I am looking forward to exploring more lens options.
