It doesn't use any of the proprietary contacts that communicate TTL exposure. You manually control flash output by manipulating the settings on the transmitter. The JR2 transmitter will allow you to use Nikon speedlights with Canon body or vice versa or even to mix Nikon and Canon and third-party speedlights in the same shot.
