Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. 1. Does the lens come with a hood? 2. Does Tamron provide a warranty?

A: The Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Lens for Sony E does include a lens hood and a 6 Year Tamron USA warranty against defects.

Q: 2. What is the difference between RXD and VXD lenses?

A: Tamron lenses with RXD in the name use the Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive focus motor. The RXD motor uses an actuator to precisely control the rotational angle of the motor, allowing it to directly drive the focusing lens without passing through a reduction gear. Tamron lenses with VXD in the name use the Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive focus motor. Focus tracking is better for sports and racing photography and video.

Q: 3. How is the performance of the Tamron 70-300mm lens with a Nikon Z6 camera base? Some reviews have mentioned it is slow to focus

A: Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Lens for Nikon Z offers decent autofocus performance. Of course a Nikon NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S Lens will offer faster Autofocus.

A: Yes this lens is suitable for wildlife photography along with a Sony E mount mirrorless camera.

Q: 9. How is this lens for Friday Night Football Games with A73 ?

A: It is a very good lens in general. But it is f/4.5-6.3. So not the best for low light compared to others. Depending on how dark it is you will need to up your iso. And it will not be as fast to Autofocus compared to an f/2.8 lens like a 70-200, https://bhpho.to/3s0NRMl .

Q: 10. Do I need a device to mount this lens to the tripod, or is it OK to just the camera only with this lens

A: Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Lens for Sony E is not heavy enough to use tripod collars or a lens foot. You can attach the tripod release plate on the camera,

I live under dark skies so I like to experiment with night photography in that I own a inexpensive Omegon tracker and can increase my exposure times. The Swan Nebula and moon are shot at 300mm. The other 2, at 70mm. I'm still learning how to optimize but am pleased with the results. I know an APOD isn't forthcoming but you can have fun with it if you acquire a cheap tracker. As all the reviews agree, this lens is excellent quality for use during normal daytime conditions with excellent clarity, especially for the price.

I used this lens for a month now and I can confidently say that I would most definitely recommend this lens for bird photography and small animals. It is a very sharp lens with fast auto focus. I have it pared with my Sony a 7 ll and it works like a dream. The only thing I would change would be the stiff manual focus ring. So I don’t use the manual focus that much but I do t need to because the auto focus is so good.

I have a Sony a7RIII, which I love, and which has 5-way image stabilization, which lets me shoot at least to 1/25 second, sometimes even a bit slower. While the Sony lenses have OSS (additional image stabilization), I really love the price-point on the Tamron lenses, and now have a set of three to cover 24mm-300mm. I find I can live handily without the additional OSS, and I find the Tamron lenses better-made, more rugged and they come with a 5-year warranty! I don't see a need to buy a Sony lens, unless there's a prime I really want. VERY happy with the sharpness of the Tamron's.

I bought this lens without big expectations, to be totally honest, just for the price. Lens arrived in perfect condition. At the first inspection, I noticed the lens hood is prone to fall off the lens, so I am somewhat worried if I have to use it somewhere near water or bridges. The lens is fast focusing and it is sharp, I found is perfect for birds in flight, as long as the light is good, but if you want to shoot at night, this is not a lens for you, I would go for at least a f/2.8 for that. I also used the lens for occasional street photography to photograph aggressive urban animals unsafe to approach with a small lens.

I purchased this lens not expecting a lot. However, I am amazed just how good this lens is. Very sharp even at 300mm on my Nikon z5.

Do yourself a favor and try it. It is sharp, not very heavy and weather resistant.

I purchased this Tamron lens to complement my Nikon z 28-75mm lens for my European vacation. I have a Z6II body and the set up worked great. I did noticed that I had to raise my ISO in order to get faster exposure times and minimize camera shake. But not a big deal, since it actually helped me practice on my exposure triangle and the Z6II can handle a higher ISO. I didn't notice any degradation over 200mm as some others have mentioned. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. The f/4.5-6.3 f-stop hasn't been an issue since I wasn't planning to use this for late night photography.
Will I get more expensive zoom lens with a wider f-stop in the future? Probably, but this camera meets my amateur photography needs for now.

For reference I am using this with a Sony A7R ii.
For $500 its pretty hard to beat the quality of this lens. It is mostly plastic, but it feels solid and is weather sealed too. I took it out to take pictures of wildlife and was pleased by its focusing speed and image quality despite having smaller f stops. The days were nice and sunny, which works well with this lens. I haven’t tested low light performance but I am assuming you’ll need a fairly low shutter speed or iso bump.

Overall great lens for $500 (on sale), I recommend to anyone not wanting to drop a thousand or more on a comparable focal length.
