Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Will this work with a bmpcc 4k and a canon c70?
A: We would only recommend using the Deneke Dcode SB-4 Syncbox Timecode Generator with a camera that has dedicated timecode ports. The Canon C70 does feature a dedicated timecode port through it's BNC adapter and would be compatible with this Timecode Generator.
Q: 2. Could I use a BNC cable, like the one linked below, to use this Tentacle Sync with a Sony FX6? I'm looking to find a way to use the FX6 without a top handle and still have an audio source. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1327596-REG/tentacle_sync_c08_cable_tentacle_to.html
A: Yes, You can use the Sony FX6 time code port which is BNC with this cable. Good info from Tenticle sync - https://bit.ly/3qcTYih Also see page 7 #23 in the FX6 manual for the port location - https://bit.ly/3e6Rpv2
Q: 3. If I am using two mics and connecting one of these to my camera (Canon 5D IV) do I need a 3rd device to sync timecode between two mics and my camera?
A: You will need a device for each item you are looking to sync. If you have 3 separate items, you will need 3 units.
Q: 4. Will this allow me to jam timecode if I am shooting on a URSA mini 4k (first edition) and recording audio to a Zoom H4N Pro (2020 edition)? any noticeable downfalls with this setup that you know of? Denecke said it would work with the URSA mini but didnt know about the Zoom H4N Pro
A: We are not aware of this working for that purpose.
Q: 5. Can I sync a Logic session through UAD Apollo?
A: You can use the Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Dual Set) (B&H# TETE2MK2) to add a timecode signal to a single audio track. That can be fed into many devices that produce or modify audio, whether that is your computer using a DAW, a camera, or a field recorder. If you are using the Universal Audio Apollo Solo Heritage Edition Desktop 2x4 Thunderbolt 3 Audio Interface with SOLO Core Real-Time UAD Processing (B&H# UNAPLSHE) then you will first need to have a means of inputting an audio track into your DAW so that all of the tracks may be read (including the one with the timecode) simultaneously.
Q: 6. What happens if I want to film in 60fps or 120fps? Is this still possible with this timecode generator?
A: Yes, just use your Tentacle unit with 30 fps (29,97 fps, 25 fps), when recording 60 fps (59,94 fps, 50 fps). Then work with Tentacle Sync Studio software and it will automatically detect the difference and will recalculate the timecode for the higher frame rate.
Q: 7. I intend to use this device for video interviews with the following kit: 1) Nikon Z6II camera feeding video via HDMI into Atomos Ninja V; 2) Tentacle Sync-E with Lavalier mic on subject; 3) Zoom F3 with shotgun mic near subject (not connected to camera or Ninja V). How many of these TC generators would I need? I'm thinking one to sync-jam the Tentacle-E recorder, which would then be connected to the Ninja V while shooting, and one connected to the Zoom F3 (not sure if that recorder will actually accept TC?). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
A: Two sounds correct. One Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Single Set) synced with the Zoom F3 which is capturing audio, and one for the NInja V which is capturing video. You can use the Tentacle Sync E mkII with the Ninja V by routing it into the mic/line input. Make sure that the Ninja is set to intake audio from the mic/line port, and then use post production software to sync.
Q: 8. What's the highest FPS for this timecode generator? 30 FPS?
A: This unit offers frame rates of 23.97, 24, 25, 29.97 and 30fps.
Q: 9. Can the bluetooth be used for syncing to bluetooth devices like the Zoom F2-BT?
A: Yes. But in order to do do the F2 Editor app is needed for time coding. Please review the following https://bit.ly/3LkEUr3
Q: 10. Is this replacing the Tentacle Sync E?
A: It is their Mark 2 Edition, so it will eventually stand as its replacement.
