First, hold the tripod as if you have just removed it from the box with the head pointed in the upward position. At the top of each leg, located just below the silver head mounting plate, you will see a rectangular silver lever approximately 2 1/4 inches long. This lever is the leg lock release. At the bottom of this lever, you will see an inverted triangle (with the point facing down). While holding the tripod by the other two legs, place your thumb on the triangle , of the leg you are working on, and apply downward pressure. You should feel the lock release. While maintaining this pressure, rotate the leg upward until it is in a horizontal position. This is the maximum the tripod will allow the leg to move. Release the pressure from your thumb and the leg will lock in place horizontally. Repeat this process for the other two legs. Now all three legs should be horizontal and the central shaft should still be vertical. Next, locate the wing-nut by the red emblem just below the silver head mounting plate. Unlock this wing-nut by turning it open. Invert the tripod so that the head mounting plate is seated in your left hand. At the bottom of the central shaft , you will see a large red triangular shaped button. Press this button and maintain pressure as you slowly push the central shaft upward.
