Manfrotto gear is top notch. I run two of these heads on a single tripod and they are mint. Smooth pan and tilt and easy release system.

couldn't be happier -- can't beat Manfrotto quality and the price point (it was on special discount)

I bought these for mounting my Fujinon FMTR-SX binoculars. At first glance it may seem to be overkill for binoculars, but if you want stability and fluid movement in altitude and azimuth, this mount is the one to get. I mounted the arm int he opposite direction as is typical because this orientation allows me to easily reach the clutches from the rear position and lock the binoculars on targets. It's great price for a very competent video head, regardless of how you'll be using it.

Some folks don't like the fixed level bias. Doesn't bother me in the least. Good price, fully adjustable tilt and pan. I'm a happy camper.

Best head I've gotten.

First off, this is a HEAVY head. It's my one and only gripe about it. If you're back-packing, look somewhere else. Other than that, this is THE best head I've used for long-lens BIF photography.

Honestly, I'd not considered video heads as an option to replace my Manfrotto 3030 purchased in the way-back days. But after a few aborted attempts to upgrade that relic, I read about this head and decided to invest. I'm so glad I did.

-with ball bearings, it's smooth as ice.

-the bridging technology design gives me the ability to tilt a full 180degrees. My old head would block out at ~ 45 degrees...not good when the BIFs are flying straight overhead.

-the sliding plate on the (very) large base gives me the ability to position the center of gravity over the center tube much better than I could before, ensuring that the tripod is much more stable, regardless of my lens configuration.

-the fluid drag system lets me dial in as much resistance as I'd like in any planar movement...I personally like it a little looser, so I can pivot and swivel to follow the action. By setting it looser, I was actually able to swivel/pivot with my hands on the camera body, not the control arm. I also found that tucking the control arm under my arm gave me the ability to move the camera with my body. It's like I'm wearing this tripod head!

-finally, in spite of differing opinions on the subject I WAS able to secure a quick release adaptor plate to this head, so that I could use it with every piece of kit currently outfitted with the standard Manfrotto plate (Manfrotto 323 RC2 System Quick Release Adapter with 200PL-14 Plate). fyi - the trick is to position the quick release at the very back of the plate. It overhangs but you can still position the slider bar quite a bit)

My net: I LOVE this head. Even given that it is going to add a few more pounds to my kit, it's weight I'll gladly pack.

This head is great. Super smooth and love that you can adjust the drag of the pan and not just tighten or loosen the locking screw. It is big so if you want to travel with it, you might want to disconnect it from your tripod and stow in your bag. I read some reviews that didn't like the position of the pan locking screw but it is not an issue to access at all.

I have this mounted on a Rhino slider and it is perfect. Heavy enough for larger cams, but also works well with mirrorless setups.
