Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are loxia lenses made in Japan?

A: The country of origin for this lens is Japan.

Q: 2. Lens hood storage, do you reverse it and attach it back onto the camera lens?

A: Yes, and because the lens hood is made of metal is nice and sturdy. Very well made.

Q: 3. Would these also work with the other Loxia lenses given their identical diameter?

A: They may work with other Loxia lenses as well. The Lux Gear Kit for ZEISS Loxia Lenses from Cool-Lux includes three 62-63.9mm 0.8 MOD lens gears for use with the following ZEISS Loxia Lenses: 21mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2.0, and 50mm f/2.0. The 62-63.9mm gear is also compatible with select other ZEISS and Nikon lenses—please see the full compatibility list below. Compatibility: Lenses with focus barrel diameter of 62 to 63.9mm, such as Zeiss Distagon T* 18mm f/3.5 ZF & ZF.2 Zeiss Distagon T* 21mm f/2.8 ZF & ZF.2 Zeiss Distagon T* 25mm f/2.8 ZF & ZF.2 Zeiss Distagon T* 28mm f/2 ZF & ZF.2 Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZF & ZF.2 Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8 Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 Zeiss Loxia 50mm f/2 Nikon 20mm f/2.8 AIS Nikon 24mm f/2.8 AIS Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AIS Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AIS Nikon 55mm f/2.8 Micro AIS

Q: 4. Would these also fit the other Loxia lenses? I believe they have identical barrel diameters.

A: Yes these lens gears should work on any of the current Loxia lenses.

Q: 5. Does it come with a de-click tool or we have to buy separately?

A: What is a de-click tool? I guess the answer is no..,

Q: 6. Has anyone used this lens or the Loxia 35mm f/2 in combination with a matte box and follow focus? They seem too short to use both and have a comfortable rig setup. I would hesitate to purchase them simply for that reason.

A: I do not have direct use using the lens with a follow focus or a matte box on the lens at the same time. The lens is on the smaller side but there are many follow focus that should work fine with it. And as for a matte box to be used at the same time with a follow focus a rig in most cases will need to be used. This way you have more versatility on positioning of the matte box.

Q: 7. Will this cap fit on a 52mm Hoya super multicoated filter?

A: Since this is a dedicated lens cap, I would advise going with a universal 52mm lens cap, which will fit on a 52mm Hoya Super HMC Thin Filter: http://bhpho.to/IBf7vy

Q: 8. How good is this camera with a7s? and is it 4k compatible ?

A: How good is the LENS with an A7S ...? In my opinion, it is good for all applications, including video. The Loxia 35/2 and 50/2 are completely compatible with all Sony A7 cameras, including the A7S. The lens is electronically connected to the body, and transmits settings and distance to the camera. The lens is very sharp throughout the image, and has exceptionally low distortion. The diaphram is manually controlled, and can be de-clicked for smooth transitions with video. Focusing is also manual, very smooth and precise with a long throw (135 deg). Manual lenses are preferred for video, and the Loxia is one of the best. I use this lens with an A7ii and A7Rii for both stills and video.

Q: 9. Does the aperture close as you turn the ring (makes manual focus at high f-numbers difficult), or does the aperture only close to the selected size when you press the shutter release (like an SLR)?

A: It closes as you turn the ring. Unlike an slr though you have focus magnify (which can kick in automatically when you turn the ring if you want) and focus peaking, so the manual focussing operation does not require an open aperture to make it easier. With a 35mm lens at smaller apertures there'll be a reasonable depth of field anyway. I always focus at the aperture I am going to use, no issues.

Q: 10. Will this cap fit on a ZEISS Loxia 50mm f/2 Planar T* Sony Mount?

A: Yes, the ZEISS Lens Cap 52mm linked below is compatible with the Loxia 2/50 lens. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/970851-REG/zeiss_2049_549_front_lens_cap_touit.html?sts=pi

With this particular rear lens cap it would have been helpful to have had B&H list the product along with its Fujifilm part number which is RLCP-001. I am very happy that B&H carry the cap. I was able to get the first one I needed in Singapore a couple of weeks ago (they had only one) and now I have 2 from B&H. The originally purchased Fujifilm lens have a cheap clear plastic cap that does not stay on the lens.

Not much to say about a lens cap. This is certainly one of the best.

I lost the cap to my Zeiss Toiut 1.8/32 and boy, that was a $ mistake. I can attest to the quality of this lens cap though. It is a very tight fit and it looks pretty schnazzy too. My best advice is don't lose your lens cap.

Bought this to replace a loose voigtlander rear cap. This feels secure while still being easy to remove. Since I've gotten it I no longer open my camera bag to find exposed rear elements. Pretty simple bit of kit, wish it didn't cost so much but it is a quality cap and does say Leica.

Recently bought a used 21/4.5 ZM lens. No caps. So I needed front and rear caps: front for daily use, rear for resale value. (I use Leica rear caps on all Leica, Voigtlander, and Zeiss lenses.) Excellent quality. Happy it was in stock.

I originally bought an after market rear lens cap. it did not work as well as the original. Save the frustration and go with a FujiFilm lens cap.
