A: Supply and demand. I have both silver and black 1560 cases and both are same pelican quality.

Q: 6. Would this case work for a telescope where the optical tube's diameter is 9.1 and an length of 16.75 ?

A: The foam can be pulled apart to fit anything even your telescope.I am not sure how strong those are but I would save some foam and use it to cover up the unit.Basically give some space at the top of the telescope and drop foam on top for travel.

Q: 7. I have an older 1650, it doesn't have the wheels recessed into the case. will this still work?

A: All generations of Pelican 1650 hard cases have the same interior dimensions therefore the TrekPak Divider Kit for Pelican 1650 Large Protector Cases will fit your case.

Q: 8. will it hold a nikon 500mm or 600mm lens?

A: Sorry but we use canon. This is a large box. Canon 70-200 with hood fits cross ways.

A: I've carried it on an international flight and had no problem, it fit overhead just fine. That being said, it is exactly the same size as the little frames they use to check the size of carry on and won't actually fit into it. So it is possible you could get some overzealous agent who wouldn't allow it.
