Capture lush stereo recordings with the AEA Ribbon Mics NUVO N8 Stereo Kit, a bundle with two NUVO N8 microphones and everything you need to quickly and precisely set up Blumlein and near-coincident configurations on a single mic stand. Offering the open and natural sound of a traditional side-address large-ribbon mic in a compact and lightweight form factor and designed for far-field use, the NUVO N8 active ribbon microphone is ideal when positioned 1 to 20' away from the source, be it for group vocals, acoustic instruments, ensembles, or drums, in the studio or on the stage. The inclusion of a custom transformer helps the NUVO N8 achieve a strong output level while retaining low-noise performance.

As a far-field ribbon, the NUVO N8 provides full low- and high-end tone when capturing sources in the context of a room. Plus, it boasts the widest frequency range of any AEA mic. The NUVO N8's figure-8 polar pattern exhibits the classic pickup traits and side-rejection qualities associated with ribbon mics. A standard XLR 3-pin male connector is on the mic for hookup to virtually any microphone preamp; 48V phantom power is required to power the mic's active electronics.

Designed at the request of legendary engineer John Kurlander (Beatles, Lord of the Rings, Skyrim), AEA's NUVO Stereo Kit enables serious musicians and engineers to rapidly set up and accurately record in stereo on a single stand. The included SKB travel case conveniently houses two N8s and comes with all of the accessories necessary to easily configure the figure-8 microphones in Blumlein and near-coincident configurations.

The NUVO Coupler allows you to easily connect two NUVO microphones top-to-top in Blumlein and mid-side configurations so that the two microphones will stay locked in place. The kit also includes two NUVO windscreens, which allow you to bring your NUVOs outdoors, on the road, and even avoid using a pop-screen with your microphones.

The N8 captures a space as it sounds live and in person, with all the present subtlety and nuance. Its expansive frequency response and balanced low-end make it superbly effective when capturing the full breadth of sound from the back of a room, above a drum set, or overhead a string section.

It is designed to be positioned at an ideal distance of 12 inches or farther from the source of sound. This far-field design allows for a wide range of options when positioning the N8 to best capture an instrument within the context of a room.

From as far away as 20 feet away, the N8 retains the low-end frequencies of the sources it captures, and its open, natural tonality makes it perfect to record an entire orchestras or the full low-end of a drum kit from overhead.

The proximity effect of the N8 is present when recording a source from closer than 12 inches, so this feature can be used to accentuate the low-end of a vocal or string instrument. Potential damage from loud sources is of no concern, even at such a short distance, as the N8 can handle 141+ dB SPL at 1 kHz.

If less proximity effect is desired when recording at close range, the near-field AEA N22 is an effective ribbon mic to complement the N8's far-field performance.

The N8 uses the same custom transformer utilized in the AEA A440 and R84A microphones, enabling an additional 12 dB of output and a stable impedance. Though it still sounds great with any AEA ribbon-optimized preamp, it is not dependent on a high-impedance, high-gain preamp for proper use.

The extra output is a major advantage when recording quiet sources like vocals and soft acoustic guitars. The active circuitry also prevents noise and interference on long cable runs and when operating near large lighting rigs.

With increased durability and a small profile, it's no wonder that a wide range of performers use AEA's NUVO series microphones on the road. The mics are totally rugged and hold up to daily wear and tear.

From outdoor gigs at music festivals to indoor theaters, NUVO mics are the perfect companion to bring the sound of studio recordings to the live stage. With the optional NUVO windscreen, never worry about the ribbon, even at windy gigs.

  • Open and natural sound
  • Far-field ribbon mic that retains lows and highs from a distance
  • Same design philosophy as the AEA R88 stereo ribbon mic
  • Compact, lightweight, and low-profile design
  • Features active electronics and a custom transformer optimized for all preamps
  • Made in the USA

Q: 1. Hi, will this work on a Pentax K3?

A: This microphone is compatible with the Pentax K-3 DSLR camera.

Q: 2. Can you connect this to an iPad for capturing audio while shooting video?

A: I use mine with an iPhone 7, via two adapters: an aftermarket TRS to TRRS and Apple's TRRS to Lightning. It works great and I couldn't discern a difference in quality between recording with a Zoom H1 and the iPhone.

Q: 3. What video cameras is compatible with this product?

A: Any camera with a 3.5mm external microphone input will accept the connection from the VideoMic. If you wish to mount the VideoMic directly onto the camera, not on the boompole, you'll also need a shoe/accessory mount.

Q: 4. What's the connection at the bottom? 5-pin XLR?

A: Yes, the Rycote 080211 Stereo Windshield WS AE ORTF Kit has an XLR 5-pin male connector at the bottom of the cable.

Q: 5. What are the dimensions of the Rycote ORTF 0802? Im planning to put it in front of my chest and on top of the Orca 270 soundbag.

A: The dimensions of the Rycote Stereo Windshield WS AE ORTF Kit are 1.5 x 0.4 x 3.4".

Q: 6. Will this mic work with a Canon Rebel T5?

A: The Canon EOS Rebel T5 does not offer an external microphone input jack. So no, this microphone, or any other, may not be connected.

Q: 7. The mount is positioned sideways when attached to the camera hot shoe. How can the mic be rotated so that it faces forward?

A: Hold the microphone head and body firmly while gently twisting the shoe portion into position.

Q: 8. Is this microphone compatible with the Nikon D5 DSLR ?

A: Yes, the Nikon ME-1 Stereo Microphone is fully compatible for use with the Nikon D5 DSLR camera.

Q: 9. Do you need a pistol grip to connect Mic to Boom pole, also how does a portable digital recording device attach to the pole? (if it does)

A: You do not need a pistol grip to attach the mic to the boompole. It connects directly using a 3/8 screw. If your audio recorder has a 1/4-20 female thread, then you will need a 1/4-20 male thread to 3/8 female thread adapter that you can easily find on B&H by searching those words.

Q: 10. Can I make this microphone also input to my computer directly?

A: The Nikon ME-1 Stereo Microphone would work with a computer that has a standard microphone mini input.

These head phones produce clear precise sound and can be use with your computer plus a host of other equipment. comming with a adaptor for 1/4 inch included. They don't muffle out all exterior sound but that's good because you want to know a little about your suroundings while shooting and editing.

These headphones are lightweight, so easy to carry around with you. But they are hefty when it comes to sound richness. I will never deal with earbuds or uncomfortable over ear headphones again. The soft foam is very comfortable even for extended wear. You do get some ambient noise, but that makes it great for personal use- you can hear the smoke alarm, or phone ring, etc. :) May be too hot on the ears for workouts, but that's to be expected. My playlists sound so much better than even my Bose player. The only down side (maybe?) is that you can easily tune out people around you!

These are the best headphones I have ever used for the price. Of course they aren't as good as the $200 ones, but they are much better than many I have tried at $50-$75. They have nice base (although not extreme base) and you can hear the midtones and highs pretty clearly as they don't get mixed together. They are light and pretty compact. The adjustments at the top can catch your hair a bit from time to time, but it's not much of a problem for me. I like the unlimited lifetime warranty too. All in all, you're not going to find a better sounding pair of headphones than these for this price. Way better than the ipod earbuds that I had before them. Works well when running or other active things.

when I bought my first pair of koss portapros in london in the early 90s, I was told it had the best frequency range and sound quality for the lowest price possible. 20 years on, having tried various sets in a NY shop, I was surprised to see that snazzier sets either didn't compare in the quality department or were way pricier. yet again I would go for what I described as the basic portapro model. but as the salesperson would mysteriously put it: 'there is nothing basic about this set of earphones.'

The fame of this product is not for nothing. My expectations were fully answered. Deep bass and clear highs, comfortable, lightweight and practical. There are products that will meet the same or even better, but cost at least four times. In your price range is unbeatable.

I use these headphones to listen to music on an I-Pod and also when I am streaming music on the computer. I like the fact I can still talk to someone while wearing them and still hear the music just fine. The sound is very good for such a light weight unit and they are very comfortable. I can wear them for several hours without any problems. I have a set of earbuds that start to irritate my ears after about 30 minutes. Although they were $80 I prefer the $32 Koss Porta Pros. If you are looking for a headphone to knock out the outside noise these are not what you want but for listening to music at home or work or on vacation they are perfect. The Koss does not pinch my hair but I am careful putting it on. The tension adjustment on the side of the temple pads works well....

A coworker recommended these headphones to me. At the time I was looking for something portable and unobtrusive to use for my daily commute. He had these headphones and suggested that I try them on. It was very comfortable, and using the comfortZone function you can adjust the pressure these headphones exert on your head. I immediately ordered one for myself and have been using it every day. It may feel a bit flimsy, but holds up perfectly fine through typical daily use and abuse. The sound quality for high and mids is superb; however, the bass is a bit light for me. Other than that, these headphones are open so you'll be able to hear whatever's around you. I also use these daily at the office and haven't had any coworkers complain about them being too loud or disruptive. As for how they look, it's completely up to personal preference. At this price range and with the performance and portability it provides, these headphones are a great buy.

I bought these headphones about 10 years ago and really enjoyed them until they were lost in a move. Now I remember why I like them so much: comfort and great depth in their sound. They float on your ears (the pressure is adjustable) and produce wonderful tones in low middle and high frequencies. A wonderful rounded quality to the sound. The construction is solid, and they're stiff enough that you can run with them. The bag is nice, but a little tough to get into and out of. For such a low price, these are really my favorite headphones - they greatly enhance my music listening pleasure.
