Render difficult landscapes with natural tonality by using the Edge Soft-Edge Gradual Filter from IRIX, a four-stop neutral density filter that reduces the amount of light in a specific area of the frame to create the proper exposure for the entirety of the frame. The soft filter has a longer transition between full transparency and maximum density and is useful for scenes with an irregular horizon line. The filter's optical glass features multi-layer, anti-reflective coating and comes in a protective case for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the Tamron 2x teleconverter (model TC-X20C-700) be used with this lens?

A: Unfortunately, the Tamron TC-X2-C-700 is not compatible with the Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Lens for Canon EF.

Q: 2. how does this lens compare to the Sigma 150 2.8 macro os ?

A: The IRIX 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Lens is a weather resistant manual focus Macro lens with sharp glass and a haze coating to create more contrast in the images. The 1.1" minimum focusing distance for the IRIX lens is similar to the 1.25" for the Sigma lens. The Sigma APO Macro 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Lens is a auto focus lens with a image stabilization, in a well built, (not as weather resistant as the IRIX), lens body. The Sigma specs say: " The optical design employs three SLD elements to virtually eliminate chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color rendering. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied for greater contrast when working in strong lighting conditions" Both lenses will work fine for macro photography, the Sigma is autofocus, more durable and offers more edge sharpness. The IRIX focuses closer and cost a bit less.

Q: 3. Will this lens work on Sigma MC-21 for L-mount?

A: Yes it will.

Q: 4. Stephen (or others), What is the effective working distance of this lens compared to the Nikon 105G? I can look up specs but would welcome actual user experience. Also, how solid is the tripod collar?

A: The Minimum Focus Distance from the sensor/film plane is13.58" / 34.5 cm and working distance from front element is approximately 8.25".

Q: 5. Where is this lens manufactured?

A: This lens is made in South Korea.

Q: 6. Can the lens foot be removed.?

A: Yes.

Q: 7. Would this lens be used for astrophotography?

A: You could use this lens for astrophotography, but it would not commonly be used for that, as there is no use for a macro lens in that area. However, it would function well if you wanted to use a telephoto, rather than a wide-angle, lens.

Q: 8. Is there some reason that this is not listed as a "Portrait lens"? Seems like it would be marketed for that as well, considering the Focal Length and Large aperture. Makes me suspicious about the image quality.

A: This is a low (looks like nearly zero) distortion lens with 1:1 true macro capabilities. Of course you could use it as a portrait and it will, no doubt, be tack sharp giving pleasant bokeh with the 11 blade round aperture shooting at f/2.8. But it is more than just a portrait lens (on a full frame...a crop frame may be too tight), it is a true macro lens which requires exacting optics and 1:1 magnification or better. In other words, on a FF camera, this lens would be fine for portraits.

Q: 9. Why is the Nikon version priced at 599 while the Canon and the Pentax are priced at 499?

A: prices are the same but the manufacturer is giving instant savings if you buy the Canon or Pentax version.

Q: 10. How do you change the aperture?

A: Through the body of the camera, just like any other digital camera. I'm assuming you have digital camera? A film camera is not compatible.
