Related Questions and Answers

Q: 3. Same quality as Rokinon DS cine? If these Samyang VDSLR II lenses are identical to the Rokion DC cine lenses, it would be great if there were lens kits and more models, like the Rokinon DS line.

A: The Rokinon line is the highest level of quality of image, finish and features that this lens manufacturer makes. I would imagine in a test, there would be a slight edge with the Rokinons for better contrast and flare control over the Samyangs. And the feature that would be essential on productions with an focus puller is the Dual Side of the Rokinon DS line. However, if you are a single shooter, you could save your money for other stuff.

A: Yes. This lens is an F mount. This is a manual focus and manual aperture lens.

Q: 7. will the aperture remain wide open when not taking a photo, only going to the selected setting when the shutter is pressed?

A: No, the aperture will adjust according to the aperture that is set on the aperture ring of the Rokinon 50mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount. The aperture does not stop down like in an auto exposure lens. This is a fully manually exposure lens, so the aperture only changes when you change the aperture ring.

Overall this lens provide sharp images from corner to corner in ways that its F mount cousin could never achieve.

Perfect companion to the 24-70. Paired with the Z 7, it practically sees in the dark. Easy to use, it produces clean images indoors with such low light a flash is practically unnecessary. It's a tiny bit larger than I was expecting but the overall package isn't too heavy at all.

Relatively inexpensive, lightweight, sharp, and all-around great lens. At f/1.8, it handles low light situations and provides a perfect complement to my 24-70 and 14-30, f/4 zooms. I switched to the z7 system for a lightweight alternative to my F system. These 3 lenses all perform way above their weight. The 50mm f/1.8 is over 1.25 lbs lighter than the new f/1.2 and 1/4 the price. Performance wise, it's a super alternative.

This lens is AWESOME. I mostly shoot at night, and making large panoramas with a 50mm makes for some great detailed sky shots. I previously had been using the amazing sigma 50mm Art (which I loved), and didn't expect the Nikkor 50mm to come even close. I was happy to be wrong. Cheaper, sharper, and great corner stars! The stars to have some wings when shooting wide open, but are well controlled at f2.2 and above. Basically zero CA. And this lens is ~half the weight and significantly smaller than the Sigma, perfect for those night hiking adventures.

I have heard there is some copy variance, but my copy is really, really good.

This thing is a beast! I used Canon's 85mm f/1.8 for the longest time and it was great, when it nailed focus. I have been shooting on this now for a month and have hit focus every single time and the image is crisp and clear with impeccable detail!

This is a phenomenal prime portrait lens paired with the Nikon Z6 platform!

This is the new lens on my Z7 most of the time. I usually use the FTZ and the plethora of Nikon F lenses that I own.

I like primes on my D850 and this one beats my Nikkor 50 1.8D on my D850 in sharpness tests on my charts. Buy one now if you own a Z!

A nifty fifty that tops the optical performance of my Sigma Art 50mm and weighs much less, focuses faster and costs about the same. Very happy.

The desire to have a 50mm f/1.8 lens was the catalyst to purchasing a new kit. I've been incredibly pleased with that kit and this lens specifically. It's made a dramatic improvement in my photography

Great lens. The Z lenses are a step up from their F mount lenses in sharpness and weight.
