I had an old 3.5 WD external hard drive that only had a USB 2.0 connector. I bought the Sabrent enclosure so I could use USB 3.0 instead. Once I removed the hard drive it was easy to install it in this new enclosure. You need to pay attention to the instructions and angle the drive to properly seat it into the SATA connector. I haven't tried removing it, but I don't need to. This enclosure uses a power plug. It's not bus powered. I do like that there's an on/off switch. Overall, what else can I say? It's a simple solution that works. I'll definitely be buying more of these. 5

I love Sabrent -- everything I have bought under this brand has been high quality. But this was a standout -- EXACTLY what we needed and ridiculously easy to use. Our Windows computer had died, and we needed to rescue the hard drive for use on another computer. This device worked perfectly and set up in no time. We only had to remove the drive from the old computer -- a very easy task, and plug it into this enclosure. Such a smart design to solve a big problem. 5

When I got the external drive enclosure, I opened it, inserted my 3.5 external drive, then powered it up and plugged it into an available USB port on my desktop. Within a few seconds, the 3 partitions of the drive showed up ready for access. I was easily able to access all 3 partitions and copy any data that may have been missed before on this drive. 5

First - need a reply feature on the reviews! Got it to work with smartctl by adding -d sat - so that problem is worked around. Another reviewer noted that screws (of the wrong thread) are supplied to secure the drive. This is optional. If the drive is not going to be moving around, it doesn't need them. It is very stable just lying flat. But if you are going to carry it around (say for an offsite backup), then you should secure the drive. I'm getting a steady drive temp of 40°C with room temp of 80°F. An older model enclosure for same brand has a drive with 33°C steady temp. I will try swapping the drives to see whether that difference is the drive or the enclosure. 5

Hassle-free way to connect an internal drive removed from a Mac Pro to a MacBook. Installing the drive in the enclosure and plugging it in was easier than pulling the drive from the Mac Pro. 5

For the reason of how a Seagate Enterprise HD is designed, it will not install in the enclosure, but every other drive I've tried works great. Nice aluminum enclosure, easy drive install and looks good too. 5
