  • Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does the guest network session time limit work? Is it per device or all devices on the guest network? What is the shortest limit configurable?

A: The Guest network in the Synology RT2600AC AC-2600 Wireless Dual-Band Gigabit Router kit can be set up from one hour to one week.

Q: 2. Can it be charged with a powerbank and be used at the same time?

A: yes this can be powered via the USB-c and used at the same time

Q: 3. Is anyone using this with IPS, VPN etc? heard it has performance hits, also heard some stability issues. Have these been resolved? anyone running this over months that can comment?

A: I have been running this router with IPS with no noticeable performance issues for the last several months. The IPS has gotten better with each update. I also use all/most of the parental controls/filters at different levels on my 25-ish devices. My CPU load does seem high, it runs about 3-4, but I don't notice any issues until it gets around 6-8. With the IPS is default, I seem to get a lot of false positive rejections, but I figure better safe than sorry.

Q: 4. What is the range of this router?

A: It will depend on the obstacles you have between the router and the device that is connected to the router and if you are using 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands. The 2.4GHZ band cover a larger area than 5GHz. If you have concrete walls or any other obstacle, the range will drop.

Q: 5. How many channels does it operate on? Does it switch channel automatically when it enters interference?

A: this unit operates on Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz, there is no mention from the manufacturer about it's ability or inability to hop channels to avoid interference

Q: 6. Can this router function as an access point only?

A: Yes. I used it as an AP for 4-5 months, then recently made it my router. Works great in both roles.

Q: 7. Can it control Fujifilm X-T30 camera? Record start/stop?

A: This does not control the camera. Use a smartphone app for that.

Q: 8. Could this be used to stream a camera's feed as a webcam with video only?

A: no this can not be used to stream the camera feed as a webcam.

Q: 9. Does this router have a consistently low latency without latency spikes on wireless? Is the wireless connection reliable?

A: Short answer - yes it's great, best latency and reliability i've had in a router thus far. I've used in a 2,400 sq ft house with PCs, IOS devices, Sonos, XBox, NS on wireless. The gamers in the house were delighted with the router replacement and I did not need to drop the consoles into a DMZ. I am not sure I know enough to give more details, but here goes: used tracert just to check, results are in very low single digits. Occasionally I see the DNS result on the tracert spike up to 12ms or so, but I might have configured DNS incorrectly. (I use OpenDNS as my Internet DNS server, and then the router's address as the primary DNS on the local network.)

Q: 10. Can this transmit to a laptop?

A: This product is not designed for sending video to a computer. it requires an app that is only available on smartphones and tablets.
