Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this adapter work with Canon EFS 18-135mm to MFT mount?

A: Yes, the Vello Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera Lens Adapter would allow you to connect the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lenses onto cameras that use the Micro Four Thirds lens mount. Do note there is no electronic communication between the camera and lens, so you would not be able to adjust the aperture of the lens or have autofocus, and EXIF data will not be sent from the lens to the camera.

Q: 2. I notice in the reviews there's a crop factor mentioned - is this the crop factor caused by using a 35mm measurement lens on the GH4 or is there a further crop due to the adapter use. If so how much? If I mount a 100mm lens what would the final crop be (ish)? Thanks

A: This particular adapter is fully mechanical, so any crop factor is going to be from the lens being used on the GH4. Since Micro Four Thirds cameras have a 2x crop factor, a 100mm lens will effectively act as a 200mm lens.

Q: 3. I know I'm slow here ... but if an EF or EF-S lens is attached to a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera via this adapter, there will not be any way to control the aperture. Am I understanding this correctly? Thanks!

A: Yes, this is correct - there is no communication between the lens and camera body, and you will have to set your exposures manually.

Q: 4. Does this come with protective caps or a case when not in use ? also- I have a Rokinon 85 1.5 mm cine lens n a tokina 11- 16 mm from a canon 70d -wanted to use on my Pana gh4 - will I come across any problems ? I know I lose auto everything n manual iris - but can I still focus manually or does it become a prime lens having to move closer or back for the tokina lens?

A: The Vello adapter does not come with any case or caps--I was annoyed at that too. There is very little to this, it's literally just a physical metal adapter, no glass or anything, just a spring release switch. If your lens can iris/focus/zoom manually via rings on the lens then you won't have any problems. And the mount actually worked smoother than my metabones speed booster, so good job Vello on that...

Q: 5. Will this control aperture from BMPCC and other M4/3 cameras?

A: The Viltrox EF-M1 Lens Mount Adapter for Canon EF or EF-S to Micro Four Thirds Camera, will control aperture when used with a Micro Four Thirds cameras, including the Black magic Pocket Cinema Cameras.

Q: 6. Will this adapter work on Olympus OMD cameras?

A: Yes, the Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera Adapter will work on Olympus OM-D cameras, as this line of Olympus cameras have Micro 4/3 lens mounts.

Q: 7. So with this adaptor I would be able to connect not just canon lenses, but any lens that has an EF/EF-S Mount onto my GH4? Besides it having no communication with the camera, and no aperture ring, why is this product so cheap?

A: This is correct- any EF/EF-S lens can be used with this adapter. The fabrication cost of this adapter is very low, and the manufacturer is able to offer this product at a very reasonable price to reflect this and make an affordable product for consumers wishing to use this type of adapter.

Q: 8. Will this work with an E-M5 Mark III?

A: The Viltrox EF-M1 Lens Mount Adapter for Canon EF or EF-S-Mount Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera is compatible with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 9. Will this work with the modern 'focus by wire' system in the new ef-s lenses focus ring? How does it work if they have to be powered thru the connections? I just need manual focus but this seems impossible.

A: NO, if you use lenses that have AF/MF "by wire" (meaning they need to be powered to actually move focus elements), like the Canon "STM" Lenses, then you will NOT be able to focus. However if you use lot of other lenses (Canon L and non-L versions) that have a Manual Focus ring which doesn't focus "by wire" you will have no problems at all to focus. It all depends on the Lens you mount on it. In fact there are LOT MORE lenses with Real Manual Focus Ring than "Focus by wire".

Q: 10. can lenses without an aperture ring work? If so, how is the aperture set?

A: It works but there are extreme limitations. You'll get a lot of blurry pictures and videos. It's best to go with the metabones.
