A: Hi George, The Leveling base is used to level the bottom/base of the head. If you use the virtual horizon feature in your camera it will be fine for single images, but if you want to do a stitch panoramic you will have to level the base and the top of the head. It all depends on what you want to do. If your tripod has a level on the base you can level the base by adjusting the legs. A: The Leveling Base works perfectly with a ballhead. It allows you to level the base of the ballhead and then you can level the to top of the ball so that when you pan the base you are perfectly level. This is necessary if you want to shoot panoramic images.
