I believe that since I plug it into the earphone jack of a computer, it combines both channels from a stereo feed into one output on the earpiece, rather than randomly choosing only one channel over the other. Sound quality is barely acceptable. With that being said, I use it to listen to my guests as I conduct live or recorded video interviews over the internet and I prefer an earpiece that is not very visible. iPhone earbuds will give you better quality, but are more visible.
