Engineered for accurate stereo reproduction of acoustic instruments and vocal ensembles with pristine detail and warmth, the Telefunken ELA M 260 Cardioid Stereo Set is a matched pair of small-diaphragm cardioid tube condenser microphones inspired by the classic ELA M 260. While Telefunken may not have produced a historic replica of the original ELA M 260 (as in the Diamond series), this version will achieve an equal level of performance and sound made famous by the original.
The included TK60 cardioid capsule provides a flat response from 150 Hz to 7 kHz and a presence peak at 8 kHz. Thanks to separately available omnidirectional and hypercardioid capsules, the ELA M 260 offers powerful versatility for pleasing capture of an array of sources in a variety of environments. The mic's circuit design is centered around an NOS 5840W vacuum tube and a custom transformer, giving it vintage-style sonics along with the low noise, high SPL handling, and wide frequency response expected for high-resolution applications. It includes a dedicated dual power supply, two shockmounts, two tube mic cables, two foam windscreens, and locking flight case.

The small-diaphragm ELA M 260 is arguably one of the industry's finest acoustic and classical recording tube microphones, offering plenty of tone with excellent detail and clarity. While not a historically accurate reproduction of the original ELA M 260 like the Diamond Series microphones, TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik's version of the ELA M 260 is still built with the same attention to detail and level of quality that would be expected from a TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik microphone.
In use, the ELA M 260 has plenty of tone with excellent detail and clarity. It captures sources with a natural presence, making it a fantastic tool for recording acoustic instruments of all types. Violin, cello, upright bass, drum overheads, percussion, woodwinds, saxophones, strings, and especially acoustic guitar all shine through the ELA M 260. Also, despite its size, it has also served well on vocal applications. Its unique tonal character is very well suited for a myriad of applications, both traditional and not.
The ELA M 260 system features a new circuit design based around a New Old Stock (NOS) EF732 / 5840W vacuum tube and a custom output transformer that is wound to exacting specification in the United States. The combination of these features yields a small-diaphragm microphone that is special while also bearing the qualities of the vintage microphones that it was based upon.
The TK60 is a small-diaphragm cardioid capsule featuring a 6-micron gold-sputtered membrane measuring 0.6" in diameter. It has a surprisingly full low-end for a small-diaphragm capsule, and offers a quick and accurate transient response. These small-diaphragm capsules are tested to a strict ±1 dB sensitivity tolerance. The frequency response is flat from 150 Hz to 7 kHz with a smooth, airy presence peak at 8 kHz, making it ideal for drum overheads, acoustic guitar, and other acoustic instruments.
Additional TK61 omnidirectional and TK62 hypercardioid capsules are available separately, empowering the user with the flexibility to record their source material in any way they wish.
ELA M 260 stereo sets include a locking flight case, two M 860 dual-shielded 25' tube microphone cables, two M 761 elastic shockmounts, two foam windscreens, and an American-made dual-channel M 960S power supply unit. This power supply is fully regulated and will power one or both microphones simultaneously, and features a slow-ramping heater voltage to ensure vacuum tube longevity.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Can this or other extension sets be used with the Nikon negative/ slide copy unit on the Z 100mm 2.8 mc lens?
A: The Kenko Auto Extension Tube Set for Nikon Z Lenses is compatible with the Nikon NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S Macro Lens (Nikon Z). However, if you want to use this with the Nikon ES-1 Slide Copying Adapter, it might not work because the ES-1 is designed to be used with a 60mm lens.
Q: 2. Does this allow autofocusing and image stabilization with Canon EF-S lenses?
A: Most lenses will autofocus but it does not support lens image stabilization. And depending on the camera the AF might not function because of the light loss using extension tubes.
Q: 3. hello I'm lookin for Rycote Lyre for an old system which are screwed from the front and rear (not top to bottom) ? thanks you for your answerBruno
A: Rode does carry parts for their older mics. Hopefully they can help to get you the correct Rycote Lyre shock mount for your mic. You can reach their customer service department by phone at 562-364-7400. Their US offices are based in California.
Q: 4. Do these increase the magnification of the Canon EF-S 60mm F/2.8 macro lens beyond it's already 1:1 magnification ratio? i.e. to really get up close and personal with bugs?
A: Yes. extensions tubes allow even greater magnification, because they move the lens father away from the film plane. Tubes are very handy, because you can just keep them in your bag, if you do a lot of macro shooting. You can stack them for greater magnification. Depending on what you are shooting and how much, a bellows may be a better option. A bellows gives you more flexibility, because you have a continuous change in magnification, without having to change tubes. The bellows expands, or contracts, depending on your needs. Some can also tilt, or shift.
Q: 5. Will these work well with the Canon 5D Mark IV?
A: Yes, the Vello Auto Extension Tube Set for Canon EF/EF-S Mounts and Lenses works well on the Canon 5d Mark IV.
Q: 6. How I do to set up the aperture?
A: I have not used these yet, but here is the deal.1) You have to have a lens that has a ring to twist (like the zoom ring to zoom in and out, or the focus ring) that allows the aperture opening to be set manually, larger or smaller. The less expensive kit lenses that come with a camera will usually not have this. The more expensive extension tube sets have electrical connectors that make the connection between the camera body and the lens to drive the aperture motor in the lens. Because there is no electrical connection you will also have to focus manually, no auto focus.2) You then have to use the camera in Manual Mode or Aperture Priority Mode. In Manual Mode you use the built-in light meter of the camera to determine if you have the correct exposure (aperture opening and shutter speed). When looking thru the view finder look for a + sign, a - sign, and hash marks in-between. In the middle of the hash marks is a zero. Adjust the aperture ring and shutter speed so the light meter reads close to zero.My first SLR film camera back in the 1970's this is how it was done, everything was manual, use the light meter to set the aperture and shutter, focus, then take the picture. In Aperture Mode the the shutter speed is set automatically for you by the camera. Just set the aperture and focus. This is why it is called a MANUAL Extension Tube Set. Everything has to be set manually because there is no electrical connection between the camera body and the lens. I bought the set to experiment with and decide if I wanted to spend more money for a set where the auto focus and auto aperture would work.
Q: 7. If I added all three to my 24-70mm, what would the focal length become?
A: There isn't an exact way to measure this, however, you may gain a greater understanding about using auto extension tubes for macro photography with this article: http://bhpho.to/1FlRZru
Q: 8. Do these extension tubes come with end caps?
A: No, the Kenko Auto Extension Tube Set for Nikon Z Lenses do not come with end caps.
Q: 9. Does this item need a clear line of sight? What if there are obstructions? For example: if I was filming in a room and the monitor was 100ft away in another room.
A: The reason line of sight is given by manufacturers is that is a dependable rating. When you have obstructions, it is impossible for the manufacturer to say what will happen. What does this mean in a practical sense? Think in terms of how dense are the obstructions. Figure with less dense material such as wallboard and lumber, you can be further, like two house rooms. If the wall is concrete or brick, you should still be good if there is a nearby doorway between the rooms. If still spotty, run cable from the monitor to the room the transmitter is in and hang the receiver out of frame.
Q: 10. Is it work on canon eos 70d
A: The Viltrox Automatic Extension Tube Set for Canon EF is compatible with the Canon EOS 70D.
