Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What are the main differences between this and Ricoh WG-8?

A: The WG-8 and the G900 II are very similar as they share many of the same specs. The G900 II is a tougher built camera for harsh environments and professional use. The entire camera can be locked by a password, it is chemical resistant and it has other functions ideal for industrial and business standards. If you're looking for a tough point and shoot camera, I would suggest the Ricoh WG-8 instead.

Q: 2. is the zoomed image visible in the viewfinder?

A: Yes.

Q: 3. Does it has a Microphone input?

A: yes. there is a stereo 1/8 miniplug microphone input. (according to the published info)

Q: 4. is this refurbished by NIKON or someone else ?

A: It is refurbished by Nikon USA.

Q: 5. I have a P900 that I hake on trips. I am considering selling the P900 and getting the P1000. I would not pay a nickel for the extra zoom as I don't think I have ever used the full zoom, but some of the reviews indicate there are other improvements beside the greater zoom capacity. Is it worth the money?

A: I think it is worth the upgrade , my opinion just RAW shutting makes it worth it besides the other option

Q: 6. Will it have GPS like the P900?

A: Nikon does not list GPS as a feature of the P1000. I would suggest as a solution using a smart device app that records your locations to a GPX file that you load into your photo editor which then geotags the photos. This works based on the time they were taken.

Q: 7. Hellow quick question, can this camera shoot in a night vision mode or infrared for night time sky photography?

A: For night sky photography capturing the Milky Way, you do not need night vision or infrared. In fact, neither would get you the look you are looking for. Ideally, you would use a full frame sensor camera and a quality wide angle prime lens (plus a tripod) to do astrophotography. The P1000 camera will do very well capturing a close up of the moon. However, it would not be a good choice for night time sky photography. That is because the sensor is too small for good and the lens too slow for low light capture. Shooting the night sky means no more than a 30 second exposure otherwise the stars move too much and become not beautiful point of light but ugly blur. You can do that with a full frame camera and fast prime lens and not with the P1000. And finally, to answer your question, there is no night vision or infrared in the P1000.

Q: 8. How granular are the on-board audio controls? Can AGC be turned off? Is the input smart enough for using external mic sources without interfering with the external gear's audio quality?

A: While this camera has big lens capabilities, its audio should be considered entry level. Since we do not have access to sufficient information, we can only offer the opinion that probably you will be able to turn AGC off. As to the mic input being smart enough, we are of the thought that the pre-amp circuitry is entry level and if you wish discerning audio, we recommend a separate, and quality, audio recorder.

Q: 9. Can the P1000 shoot videos and can it shoot for an unlimited/unrestricted time?

A: The Nikon Coolpix P1000 Digital Camera can capture UHD 4K video (3840 x 2160) at 25p/29.97p, Full HD video (1920 x 1080) at 25p/29.97p/50p/59.94p, and standard HD video (1280 x 720) at 25p/29.97p/50p/59.94p. Individual movie files cannot exceed 29 minutes in length, even when there is sufficient free space on the memory card for longer recording. The maximum file size for individual movies is 4 GB.

Q: 10. In manual mode does the ISO default to a set number once exposure time is greater than 1 second?

A: We are not sure of the behavior of the P1000 since it is not out yet and we do not have access to enough information at this time. Going off the P900 however, we see that in manual mode, when set to Auto or Fixed range auto, the ISO sensitivity is fixed at ISO 100. This appears to apply to anything regarding exposure time.

I bought this camera for the sole purpose of catching snapshots for the family. Really like the usefulness of getting good indoor shots. The flash is strong to reach out and make a good picture plus the hot shoe let's you attach a flash for greater reach. Takes a while to figure out all the things you can do with it. It's just easier for me than the SLR. The zoom is really great. Going to need a unipod or tripod for the long zooms.

Very good clear pictures, great lense zoom pictures are clear. loads of features, still learning how to use, I took camera out the box and started shooting after loading a memory card and batteries, rechargeable batteries are a must. battery life is good, I have taken over 245 pictures in 3 days and batteries are still going strong.

This is my second Canon Powershot and I upgraded this time. Have taken some pixs and video and relatively easy to use--most controls like my other powershot camera so far. Since my last Canon had a automatic closure on the lens and it busted leaving it exposed, I wanted to make sure this camera used a lens cap (alto not attached)--I did have to get a lens cap keeper so I wouldnt lose it--but minor inconvenience. I am hoping to get more comfortable with it by summer vacation. It is heavy but solid and very sturdy. Since it requires 4 AA batteries vs. two in my older model, the battery door requires more gentle force to close properly. I called Canon tech support on this and received polite and helpful guidance.

I have not had the opportunity to try all the features, however I took softball pics from 150 feet at max tele and got great results. I even got good running pics. There is no delay like my old camera. I get the pic I expect and not the one a second later.

I'm an amateur photographer, and, so far, this camera has lived up to my expectations. The main reason I purchased this was for the increased zoom over other point and shoots, and this camera delivers. The only pictures I've taken thus far have been inside shots, and I haven't noticed any problems with lighting, exposure, etc. I'd definitely recommend this to other amateurs like myself.

My digital camera is for documentation and promotion of my work as a professional artist as well as for personal use. The features I'm most interested in are high quality images with sufficient resolution for print publication (minimum 12 megapixels), auto and manual controls, an articulating viewer, a wide angle/telephoto lens (28mm560mm), and 1080i HD video. I also expect to get a suite of technology such as image stabilization and connectivity commensurate with other cameras in this class. I compared features of various cameras online and chose the Canon PowerShot SX20is based on the many positive reviews and recommendations. I suggest that you read many reviews and comments from many and various sources. Be sure to order a memory card when you order the camera or you won't be able to take pictures or videos. I got an 8GB, 20MB/sec. SanDisk to accommodate hefty HD video files. I only recently purchased the camera but so far it's performing as advertised. If it's as durable and dependable as the old Nikon Coolpix it's replacing then I'll be very satisfied. I have a lot of confidence in the technology in general and in the quality of most of the major brand cameras.

This is a rather impressive little rig. I used to be a pro, so I scrutinize all my cameras very thoroughly. So, it means a lot, when I say this camera is impressive. As far as point and shoots go, I'd say this one tops the cake in every category. It shoots wonderfully accurate photos and is very easy to use. The flash pop-up button on mine doesn't work at all. I've owned it for a month, and it hasn't worked since Day 1. I have followed all the instructions, and it still doesn't work. But, the flash does work, if I lift it manually... It's not too big a deal to me. If you want a full auto flash, this is something of which you might want to be aware.I haven't delved fully into all the camera's functions yet, but so far, it's a joy to shoot - especially the macro settings. The closeups are amazingly crisp and vibrant.I would highly recommend this rig for anyone who doesn't want to lug around an SLR and lenses. It can do everything they can do, and in some cases, better, and it fits nicely into single lens holster bag.
